We are delighted to provide students with this special opportunity to experience the heart and soul of ancient Chinese culture and history in partnership with one of China’s leading universities. Students will need at least a Basic Level of Mandarin to fully benefit from the cultural program and language classes held at XJTU.

The Xi’an Study Tour is an intensive 14-day program from 29 June – 13 July 2015 . It provides an interactive opportunity to learn Chinese and experience some of China’s oldest and most revered culture. Students will have the opportunity to visit the Qin Emperor’s spectacular terra-cotta warriors and one of the holiest Buddhist sites at the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda.

Fees: Tuition fees, accommodation, local transportation, meals and excursions are fully covered by the Confucius Institute. Students are required to pay for return international airfares, visa application fees and other on the ground expenses.

Eligibility: The study tours are open to all UNSW undergraduate students in all faculties that have an interest in Chinese language and culture.

Applications: Applications commence in late Feburary and close on 10 April with interviews taking place throughout May and offers to successful applicants issued by early June. Applicants from all disciplines and career stages are encouraged to apply. The ideal applicants may currently or previously been enrolled in Chinese learning programs inside or outside university.

The application process is extremely competitive and students are required to attend a panel interview and demonstrate a firm interest in Chinese language and culture, an open and mature mindset to international travel and developing countries and some Chinese language proficiency. Please Note: Confucius Institute staff will attend Chinese language lectures and tutorials to promote the study tours in the opening weeks of Semester One. Current Chinese students will also be notified via Moodle in the opening weeks of Semester One.
