Finance Outage – 12 February 2011

Planned Maintenance Outage: Finance Outage

IT at UNSW advises that access to Finance systems will be unavailable as follows:-

Date: Saturday 12 February 2011
Time: 08:00 to 15:00

Zones/Campuses affected: All campuses
Services affected: NS Finance & nVision
Services not affected: myUNSW; HR and Student

Purpose:
Finance and IT at UNSW will be performing maintenance on the system.

User impact:
During the outage period NS Financials will not be available including via Citrix. This also includes nVision reporting.

PABX (Phone Services) – 6th Feb 2011

Planned Maintenance Outage: UNSW phone outage

IT at UNSW advises that there will be an outage to phone connections for the Main Campus.

Date: Saturday 6 February 2011
Time: 8:00 to 13:00
Duration: 5.0 hours

Zones/Campuses affected: UNSW Main Campus
Services affected: LAN phone connections (including Voicemail).
Services Not Affected: Mobile phones and network access.

Purpose:
IT at UNSW will be performing maintenance on the PABX phone system.

User impact:
During the period of the outage there will be no access to make phone calls or receive phone calls for up to 3.0 hours during the outage period.  All Network connections and mobile phone access will still be available.

Windows SOE Desktops – 18 Jan 2011

What is happening?
Microsoft Monthly (December 2010 & January 2011) Security patches will be delivered to Windows Standard Operating Environment (SOE) PCs that are managed by the Desktop Shared Services team.

Why is this happening?
The Desktop team release these security patches to maintain and secure UNSW’s PCs and your work environment.

When is this happening?
We will be delivering the security patches to PC’s on Tuesday 18th January 2011 at 4am.

What do I need to do?
A number of patches are being delivered to your PC which will require a reboot to complete the process.

A grace period from 4am Tuesday 18th January 2011 to 5pm Friday 21st January 2011 will be available to all users where they can install and restart their PC at a convenient time.  After 5pm Friday 21st of January 2011, this grace period will cease and your system will download and install all patches and restart your PC automatically.

IT at UNSW advises that access to nVision will be unavailable as follows:-

Date: Saturday 8 January 06:00 to Sunday 9 January 18:00

Zones/Campuses affected: All campuses
Services affected: NS Finance & nVision
Services not affected: myUNSW; HR and Student

Purpose:
Finance and IT at UNSW will be performing end of year processing.

User impact:
During the outage period NS Online will continue to be unavailable due to end of year processing.  nVision will also be unavailable during this outage period.

myUNSW – 13 Dec 2010

Planned Maintenance Outage: myUNSW –Monday 13 December 2010

IT at UNSW advises that myUNSW will be unavailable as follows:

Date: Monday 13 December 2010
Time: 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Duration: 3 hours

Campuses affected: All campuses
Services affected: myUNSW, NSS Student, NSS HR
Services Not Affected: NSS Finance, My eLearning Vista, eLIMS

Purpose:
IT at UNSW will performing some urgent maintenance.
User impact:
During the period of the outage users will not be able to access myUNSW, NSS Student, NSS HR.

Windows SOE Update – 10 Dec 2010

What is happening?

IT at UNSW Desktop Engineering will be updating the base software on ALL UNSW SOE computers. This is to ensure University computers are up to date and have the latest release of software.

The following software will be updated:

Adobe Flash Player ActiveX 10.1
Adobe Flash Player Plugin 10.1
DivX Codec 7.0
Quicktime 7.68
UNSW EML File Fix 1.0
Adobe Reader 10.0
Mozilla Firefox 3.6.11

Why is this happening?

Vendors and software providers update their applications with newer versions for the following reasons :

  • Added functionality
  • Compatibility with newer versions of other applications they integrate with (eg. Web browsers, iTunes, PDF readers)
  • Compatibility with newer versions of other hardware they integrate with (eg. iPhones, DVD Players, PCs and Laptops)
  • Address security and stability risks
  • Address application functionality errors

When is this happening?

The update will be delivered after 18:00 10 December 2010.

What do I need to do?
Please ensure that you leave your computer turned on, but logged off as you leave work on Friday 10 December 2010.  If you would prefer to turn your computer off, the software will be deployed when you next turn your computer on.

Laptops : If you take your laptop home over the weekend, the software will be deployed when you next connect it back to the network.

Purpose:
IT at UNSW will be carrying out maintenance on the above mentioned drives, resulting in an outage.

User impact:
Users will not be able to access their files stored on the share drives listed above for up to 30 mins between 08:00 and 12.00.
If you try to access your drive during the outage period and cannot connect – please try again in 30 mins.

Citrix outage – 27 Nov 2010

IT at UNSW advises that access to Citrix will be unavailable as follows:-

Duration: 9.0 hours

Services affected: Citrix access, NS Finance nVision only,& NS HE systems
Services not affected: NS Financials via the web, Email systems and access to myUNSW

Purpose:
IT at UNSW will be performing maintenance on the systems mentioned above.

User impact:
During the outage period users will not have access to NS Finance and NS HE systems via Citrix.  There will be no functionality change as a result of this change.

System patching (various) – 20 Nov 2010

Planned Maintenance Outage: Saturday 20 November 2010 – 07:00 to 12:00

IT at UNSW advises that due to systems patching the following systems will be unavailable as follows:-

  • Blackboard9
  • Julia
  • NS Finance access
  • IDM
  • WSSO
  • RWS

Date: Saturday 20 November 2010
Time: 07:00 to 12:00
Duration: 5.0 hours

Zones/Campuses affected: All campuses
Services affected: Blackboard 9, Julia, NS Finance Access, IDM (password changes), WSSO, RWS
Services not affected: Exchange, Lectopia, myUNSW, File and Print services, NS HR and NS Student

Purpose:
IT at UNSW will be performing system patching to ensure servers are up to date with security and system patches.

User impact:
During the outage period users will not have access to Blackboard9, Julia, NS Finance, IDM, WSSO and RWS.  Users may be able to login to these systems during the outage period, however, the server may be rebooted during their session to complete the change, therefore causing the user to be disconnected.  IT at UNSW advises staff should try and avoid logging into these systems until after 12.00 noon on Saturday.

Network outage – 21 Nov 2010

Planned Maintenance Outage: UNSW Network Outages

IT at UNSW advises that there will be outages occurring on the UNSW Network as follows.

Date: Sunday 21 November 2010
Time: 06:00 – 23:59
Duration: 5-10 minute outages x 3 times during this period

Zones/Campuses affected: UNSW Main Campus
Services affected: Access to network services from desktop and laptop machines via network cable or UniWide
Services Not Affected: Data Centre services and network access from other campus or VPN access and telephone

Purpose:
IT at UNSW will be upgrading the Network infrastructure.

User impact:
During the period of the outage there will be intermittent network connection outages from desktop machines and laptops connected to the UNSW network or Uniwide.  If at any stage during Sunday 21 November 2010 you experience issues accessing any services from your PC, please wait 5-10 minutes and try the service again. These intermitted outages may happen up to 3 times per building during the course of the outage period.  If after this stage the issue persists, please contact the service desk on ext 51333 or 02 9385 1333.
