GoAnimate.com: Underdog and the Perilous Flight by mikebogle

Kudos to my colleague, Mark Foster, for discovering this absolute gem of a service. GoAnimate is a site that enables you to easily create your own cartoons and animations, using your own story lines, transitions, speech bubbles and sound effects.
I’ve only just scratched the surface on this tool, so there is a whole lot I don’t know. However having spent an hour or so experimenting with the toolset, and creating …

Connectivism and other approaches to online professional development
August 11th, 2009 · No Comments · Connections & collaboration, Events, Learning & teaching, UNFED
(Notes from UNFED meeting 05.08.09) Mike Bogle demonstrated the distributed approach to online course implementation via George Siemens and Stephen Downes ‘Connectivism and Connective Knowledge’ course, run late in 2008 (CCK08). Described as “an attempt to destabilize the concept of a course“, and building on a basic concept of learner constructed and directed learning spaces [...]

Recording from CCK08 Presentation for UNFED
August 6th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Syndicated Post
Yesterday afternoon I gave a short presentation on CCK08 to the UNSW Network of Faculty Educational Developers, focusing primarily on an overview of CCK’s distributed nature, the technical environments used during the 12-week course and the underpinning logic behind the distributed framework. Seeing as I had access to an iPod and microphone attachment I decided to record the first half of the presentation and share it here.
The talk was divided into two parts – roughly 20 minutes of which featured my presentation, and a following 10 minutes of open discussion. …

CoCo Learning Technology Research Symposium at the University of Sydney
August 3rd, 2009 · No Comments · Research, Syndicated Post
The Centre for Research on Computer Supported Learning and Cognition (CoCo) at Sydney University recently announced plans for the 2009 Learning Technology Research Symposium taking place October 1st from 10 am to 2 pm. Several colleagues and I attended the previous symposium held late last year (details from 2008 here) and it was a great event. If you can spare the time I’d recommend going.
From the CoCo website:
“The Learning Technology Research Symposium is a half-day event inviting the community of researchers and practitioners in ICT-supported learning to exchange ideas, showcase …

CCK08 Presentation for UNFED
July 31st, 2009 · No Comments · Networked learning, Syndicated Post
The stars seem to all be aligning on Connectivism at the moment. A month or so ago I was approached about presenting my experiences with CCK08 to the local group of Educational Developers at UNSW, which I happily agreed to. The presentation isn’t until next week, however given I’ve more or less finished the slides today I thought I might release them for feedback, critique and suggestions.
NOTE: Due to the fine detail of the screenshots, this presentation is best viewed full screen.

Webconferencing and Open Education
May 22nd, 2009 · No Comments · Syndicated Post
I’m currently watching the recording of a presentation called Where is the open education movement going?, organised by Educause Live, which is:
“…a series of free, hour-long interactive web seminars on critical information technology topics in higher education. Each seminar is delivered live using online audio and video/image presentation technology, allowing you to interact directly with the host and guests through your web browser.”
I wanted to pass this particular presentation along a couple of reasons. First and foremost it involves a discussion on Open Education by some of the key, driving …

Technology Enabled Learning & Teaching at UNSW

Given my role in the TELT project as an eLearning Researcher and Educational Technologist, I should probably preempt this post by saying the opinions and perspectives contained here are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of UNSW, or the individuals in the video. Basically this isn’t a formal media release; they’re just my thoughts and experiences.
This video was posted just this evening on the UNSW eLearning Channel at YouTube and I thought it was worth sharing. This is primarily to establish a point of reference regarding …
