Overnight, Office 365 was enabled on all staff and student accounts at UNSW.
UNSW IT are consulting with faculty managers and key stakeholders from divisions to determine the best timeline to upgrade software on SOE Mac and PCs, with Law and FBE rolling out the new software this week. We’ll be rolling out the latest desktop software to you soon, so please keep an eye on your inbox to find out when you’ll be upgraded.
While you wait for your area to be upgraded, you can take advantage of some of the new features of Office today. Office 365 allows you to install Office on up to 5 personal computers, and 5 mobile devices, per user. And you can use Word, Excel and Powerpoint in a browser right now, to collaborate on documents with your team.
If you’d like to know more, visit the UNSW Office 365 website. And subscribe to this blog, we’ll be sharing tips about Office 365 over the next few weeks.

Hi Peter,
Wondering if there is any plans to include visio and project 2016 licenses for staff? They have been installed on my computer but the full features are locked out. Also interested in using teams once it becomes available.
All PCs get Visio and Project in Read only mode installed – because that’s what the standard license covers. Microsoft charge us per Visio and Project license we use for full access, so it’s only being given to staff who previously had Visio or Project installed, or who get manager approval to purchase a license.
Hi Peter,
just found this article, so Teams are enabled for all Education customers from 20 March 2017
https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Microsoft-Teams-Blog/Microsoft-Teams-now-available-in-Office-365-Education/ba-p/54801
Q. Is Microsoft Teams on by default for Office 365 Education users?
A. Starting March 20, 2017, Teams will be off by default and available to IT admins to turn on for their institutions. We recommend that IT admins enable Microsoft Teams and begin using it now within their IT organizations; and for targeted groups of faculty, staff, teachers, and higher-education students.
any idea when UNSW might enable the function?
thank you
Tomas
We’ve turned on Teams in IT to use it and write up some guides and guidelines for the service. We can start rolling it out after that.
Hi Peter,
Vincent again. Saw this: https://redmondmag.com/articles/2017/03/22/teams-expands-to-office-365-education.aspx
Can we expect it to be available any time soon?
Tahanks
Hi Peter,
given that you rolled out Office 365 to all staff. Will it also connect to the new eCRM https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj191625.aspx ?
Thank you.
Tomas
Hi Peter,
Will Microsoft Teams be included in the Office 365 package? I believe it is due to be released in a week or so?
Thanks
Hi Vincent,
I wish it was! Unfortunately Microsoft haven’t made Teams available to education customers yet. https://blogs.office.com/2016/11/02/introducing-microsoft-teams-the-chat-based-workspace-in-office-365/
But as soon as it’s available, I’ll be using it.
