Ars Bioarctica art&science residency in 2012<\/span><\/p>\n

Ars Bioarctica is long term art&science program by the Finnish<\/span>
\nSociety of Bioart together with the Kilpisj\u00e4rvi Biological Station.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since 2010 it is organizing an artist-in-residency program at the<\/span>
\nKilpisj\u00e4rvi Biological Station of the University of Helsinki in<\/span>
\nthe sub-Arctic Lapland.<\/span><\/p>\n

The emphasis of the residency is the Arctic environment and art&<\/span>
\nscience collaboration and is is open for artists and art&science<\/span>
\nresearch teams.<\/span><\/p>\n

The residency takes place in the facilities of the Kilpisj\u00e4rvi<\/span>
\nBiological Station. It provides the residents with a combined<\/span>
\nliving and working environment, a basic laboratory, internet<\/span>
\nconnection and sauna.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Kilpisj\u00e4rvi Biological Station offers to the visiting artists<\/span>
\nthe same possibilities and infrastructure as its scientists and<\/span>
\nstaff. This includes access to all scientific equipment, laboratory<\/span>
\nfacilities, the library and seminar room as well as the usage of<\/span>
\nfield equipment. A dedicated contact person in Kilpisj\u00e4rvi will<\/span>
\nfamiliarize residents with the local environment and customs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The basic costs of a residency period which have to be covered by<\/span>
\nthe applicant include:<\/span>
\n* travel to Finland<\/span>
\n* travel within Finland to Kilpisj\u00e4rvi<\/span>
\n* accommodation and provisions at the Station.<\/span><\/p>\n

Applications have to include the desired residency duration, a work<\/span>
\nproposal, a working plan with time schedule, the desired residency<\/span>
\noutcome, a list of necessities for the work to be carried out and<\/span>
\nthe artists CV.<\/span><\/p>\n

The application deadline is 31st of January 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n

The evaluation of the applications emphasizes the quality of the<\/span>
\nproposal, its interaction of art&science, its artistic and or<\/span>
\nscientific significance, the projects relation to the thematic<\/span>
\nfocus of Ars Bioarctica, and its feasibility to be carried out at<\/span>
\nthe Kilpisj\u00e4rvi Biological Station in the given time.<\/span><\/p>\n
