CFP: Electromagnetic Field 2012, Milton Keynes UK<\/span><\/p>\n

\nEMF 2012 CALL FOR PARTICIPATION<\/span><\/p>\n

About the Event<\/span><\/p>\n

Electromagnetic Field 2012 is a three-day camping festival in the UK<\/span>
\nfor people with an inquisitive mind and an interest in science,<\/span>
\nengineering, DIY, technology, arts, or crafts. It will be a cross<\/span>
\nbetween a tech conference and a music festival, with talks and<\/span>
\nworkshops on a wide range of subjects. A great opportunity to meet<\/span>
\nlike-minded people, to learn, to teach, to play, and have a drink with<\/span>
\na stranger. A festival for anyone interested in 3D printing, DIYBio,<\/span>
\ntextiles, electronics, Internet culture, music hacking, space,<\/span>
\nlockpicking, homebrewing, computer security, robots, UAVs, mind<\/span>
\nhacking, radio, and pretty much anything else you can think of… in a<\/span>
\nfield!<\/span><\/p>\n

\nTalks<\/span><\/p>\n

A 1h presentation about a topic in science, engineering, DIY,<\/span>
\ntechnology, arts, or crafts. The allocated time includes Q&A, setup,<\/span>
\nand teardown.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWorkshops<\/span><\/p>\n

A 1h, 2h, or 3h workshop involving practices in science, engineering,<\/span>
\nDIY, technology, arts, or crafts. The allocated time includes setup<\/span>
\nand teardown.<\/span><\/p>\n

We hope to have enough desk space and chairs for everyone, but details<\/span>
\nare yet to be determined. If you prefer to hold open-ended workshops<\/span>
\nthen we encourage you to start or join a village: see below for<\/span>
\ndetails.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nPerformances<\/span><\/p>\n

Musical performances, DJ sets, artistic performances, general evening<\/span>
\nentertainment, …<\/span><\/p>\n

We will provide a stage area in a tent and a basic PA.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nVillages<\/span><\/p>\n

Villages are dedicated camping areas for particular groups, with<\/span>
\nshared access to power and Internet. You can form a village for your<\/span>
\nlocal hackerspace, art form, project, or any other community. This<\/span>
\nmakes it easier for people to get to know each other and encourages<\/span>
\ncollaboration while at the festival, be it for cooking sessions or to<\/span>
\nbuild ambitious installations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nVenue Details<\/span><\/p>\n

EMF 2012 is a camping festival in a field. The venue is Pineham Park,<\/span>
\nnear Milton Keynes in the UK.<\/span><\/p>\n

We plan to have two event tents with an audience capacity of about 100<\/span>
\neach, both with access to power and Internet, each with a projector,<\/span>
\nand at least one of the tents will have a PA for larger presentations.<\/span>
\nWe also aim to have camp-wide wifi, and ethernet ports in key<\/span>
\nlocations.<\/span><\/p>\n

We will attempt to stream the talks and performances and publish the<\/span>
\nrecordings after the event.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nBudget and Travel expenses<\/span><\/p>\n

The EMF camp is a non-profit event produced entirely by volunteers,<\/span>
\nand speakers are not paid. Unfortunately we can not subsidise your<\/span>
\nentry ticket, and we do not have a travel budget for contributors<\/span>
\neither; due to the nature of the event we expect that everyone pays.<\/span>
\nWe may be able to make a few very rare exceptions, but don’t count on<\/span>
\nit.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nDates and Deadlines<\/span><\/p>\n

The deadline for submission is Friday 29 June 2012, 23:59 UTC.<\/span>
\nNotification of acceptance will be sent by e-mail as early as<\/span>
\npossible, but on Friday 13 July 2012 the latest.<\/span><\/p>\n

Electromagnetic Field 2012 is held between Friday 31 August and Sunday<\/span>
\n2 September 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nSubmissions<\/span><\/p>\n

All proposals for talks, workshops and performances must be submitted<\/span>
\nonline using our submission system at<\/span>

\ninstructions, and state if you have special requirements besides the<\/span>
