The session involved group discussions about the research into learning and teaching people were undertaking and\/or interested in, including workplace learning; embedding skills; and informal learning.  A full list of themes can be accessed <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/connections\/files\/2009\/11\/21st-October_Research-themes.doc2.pdf\">21st October_Research themes.pdf<\/a>.  Areas of overlap were identified and ideas were shared and explored.    Issues of methodology and research design were also discussed.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the group identified what they would like future seminars in the series to address:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tMethodology: how to research learning and teaching<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tOpportunities for informal discussion and sharing ideas<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tFeedback to the library so it can help support academics with their research into learning and teaching<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tA reading group: discussing reactions and interpretations of papers\/ books<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tDiscussions about how to get published: identifying journals, conferences<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Jan shared some useful resources for academics interested in research teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<p>The next Researching Learning and Teaching seminar will be held on the 18 November and will include a presentation by Jacqui McManus, Learning &amp; Teaching covering: research design ideas for capturing individuals\u2019 perceptions of their own development as learners; an example of a study into change in student capability; and phenomenographic analysis \u2013 capturing people\u2019s understanding of a phenomena.<\/p>\n<p>Time: 12.00-1.30pm<\/p>\n<p>Location: Climate Change Research Centre, Level 4 Mathews Building<\/p>\n<p>Light lunch will be provided by L&amp;T@UNSW with support from the ALTC.<\/p>\n<p>Please register online at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edtec.unsw.edu.au\/event_rego\/events.cfm\">http:\/\/www.edtec.unsw.edu.au\/event_rego\/events.cfm<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first \u2018Researching Learning &amp; Teaching\u2019 session was held on 21 October and was facilitated by Jan McLean, Learning &amp; Teaching.
