{"id":1679,"date":"2012-03-19T21:52:29","date_gmt":"2012-03-20T04:52:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/?p=1679"},"modified":"2013-02-11T17:58:05","modified_gmt":"2013-02-12T00:58:05","slug":"uk-university-in-china-offers-scholarships-to-u21-alumni","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/blog\/2012\/03\/uk-university-in-china-offers-scholarships-to-u21-alumni\/","title":{"rendered":"UK university in China offers scholarships to U21 alumni"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The University of Nottingham announces new scholarship programme for U21 graduates who enrol for masters degree programmes at its branch campus in China. <strong>Full story<\/strong> below\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The University of Nottingham Ningbo China will award scholarships worth about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chinability.com\/renminbiconverter.htm\">\u00a59,00<\/a>0 (about U$1,500 or \u00a3900) to graduates from all universities in the Universitas 21 network who enrol for its masters degree programmes.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship, equivalent to 10% of the maximum annual tuition fee of \u00a590,000 (\u00a39,000), will be awarded on a non-competitive basis to all U21 alumni who register for full-time degree programmes from September.<\/p>\n<p>The U21 is a group of research-focused universities that create opportunities for students to enhance their university education by studying abroad for a period.<\/p>\n<p>There are 23 universities in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.universitas21.com\/member\">U21 group<\/a> from around the world, including The University of Nottingham. They are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The universities of Queensland, New South Wales and Melbourne in Australia;<\/li>\n<li>McGill University and University of British Columbia in Canada;<\/li>\n<li>The University of Delhi, India;<\/li>\n<li>University College Dublin, Ireland;<\/li>\n<li>The universities of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Birmingham in the UK;<\/li>\n<li>Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey, Mexico;<\/li>\n<li>Waseda University, Japan;<\/li>\n<li>University of Auckland, New Zealand;<\/li>\n<li>Lund University, Sweden;<\/li>\n<li>The universities of Connecticut and Virginia in the US;<\/li>\n<li>University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands;<\/li>\n<li>Korea University, South Korea;<\/li>\n<li>National University of Singapore; and<\/li>\n<li>China\u2019s Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and University of Hong Kong<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Also eligible for postgraduate scholarships of 10% of the first year\u2019s tuition fee are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The University of Nottingham\u2019s alumni;<\/li>\n<li>Any student who has spent time at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China on a Study Abroad programme or as an international exchange student during their undergraduate years; and<\/li>\n<li>Immediate relatives of The University of Nottingham\u2019s alumni and current students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These scholarships are only available for students who register for full-time degree programmes and are for the first year of study.<\/p>\n<p>Students can also apply, with the help of the University, for generous scholarships for international students from the city of Ningbo.<\/p>\n<p>In this academic year, Ningbo granted more than \u00a5750,000 (\u00a375,000) in funding to international students who enrolled for degree programmes at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China.<\/p>\n<p>University entrants are eligible for more than one scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>The University offers taught masters programmes across its three faculties: Social Sciences, which includes a branch of one of Europe\u2019s top <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nottingham.edu.cn\/en\/business\/index.aspx\">business schools<\/a>; Arts and Humanities; and Science and Engineering. We have students from Brazil, Panama, the US, Tanzania, Russia and South Korea, among the many nations represented here at our international campus,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Studying for a UK degree at a university in China where all programmes are delivered in English is a highly attractive proposition for individuals looking to add an international dimension to their overall university experience, noted Ms Chen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are tremendous career opportunities for our alumni because they have unrivalled insights into the culture and workings of China, an important trading partner for most countries,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAside from the scholarship programmes, we support our international students through special social programmes and organised events.
