{"id":1784,"date":"2012-04-09T19:28:30","date_gmt":"2012-04-10T02:28:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/?p=1784"},"modified":"2012-04-09T19:28:30","modified_gmt":"2012-04-10T02:28:30","slug":"airbus-issues-student-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/blog\/2012\/04\/airbus-issues-student-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Airbus Issues Student Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>French-based aviation giant Airbus wants students worldwide to start thinking big and green and develop ideas to address the key issues facing the industry (energy, energy efficiency, affordable growth, traffic growth, passenger experience, and community friendliness) as part of the \u2018Fly Your Ideas\u2019\u00a0(FYI) student challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Charles Champion, Executive Vice President Engineering at Airbus and FYI\u00a02013 patron, said some solutions will require thinking out of the box and that Airbus works in a world of solutions for seemingly impossible challenges like those that made air travel a reality. His goal is to get students to adopt that innovative spirit in FYI\u00a02013.<\/p>\n<p>University students of any nationality or discipline, from engineering to marketing, business to science, information technology to design, can apply for FYI\u00a02013.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To enter, students must register a team of three to five members at the <a title=\"Airbus Fly Your Ideas\" href=\"http:\/\/www.airbus-fyi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Airbus FYI\u00a02013 website<\/a>. Registration opens in May\u00a02012, when details of the challenge will be revealed. The competition begins in September\u00a02012, with the final in June\u00a02013, when the top selected teams will present their ideas to a panel of Airbus and industry experts. The winners of FYI\u00a02013 will share EUR30\u00a0000 (A$38\u00a0000); the runners-up EUR15\u00a0000 (A$19\u00a0000).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>FYI\u00a02011 drew entries from more than 2600 students from 287 universities and 75 countries. \u2018Team Wings of Phoenix\u2019 from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China won with their wind power generation system that exploits the wakes of aircraft during takeoff and landing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNSW Teams who register for this challenge must notify the UNSW Global Education and Student Exchange Office at <a href=\"mailto:advisor4globaled@unsw.edu.au\">advisor4globaled@unsw.edu.au<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>French-based aviation giant Airbus wants students worldwide to start thinking big and green and develop ideas to address the key issues facing the industry (energy, energy efficiency, affordable growth, traffic growth, passenger experience, and community friendliness) as part of the \u2018Fly Your Ideas\u2019\u00a0(FYI) student challenge.
