{"id":1992,"date":"2012-07-02T19:12:48","date_gmt":"2012-07-03T02:12:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/?p=1992"},"modified":"2012-07-02T19:12:48","modified_gmt":"2012-07-03T02:12:48","slug":"daad-australia-announces-encounter-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/blog\/2012\/07\/daad-australia-announces-encounter-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"DAAD Australia announces: Encounter Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) <\/strong>announces the availability of scholarships<strong> <\/strong>for the following course:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Encounter Europe \u2013 Visit Germany<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A DAAD Seminar for Students from Australia and New Zealand at the <\/strong><strong>European Academy Otzenhausen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An introduction to the political, economic and environmental issues of European integration from 2 \u2013 15 December 2012. In co-operation with the ASKO Europa Stiftung (AES) and other renowned partners in Germanyand Australia, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is once again offering scholarships for a two-week course dealing with a variety of issues regarding the European Union. Two weeks full of exciting opportunities for students \u2013 from the fields of law, politics, international relations, European studies or similar subjects \u2013 wanting to improve their understanding of contemporary European affairs and legislative regulations, organised by the European Academy Otzenhausen, the University of New England and the DAAD.<\/p>\n<p>The course is open to advanced undergraduates and graduates enrolled at an Australian or New Zealand university. They must either be Australian or New Zealand nationals or have been living \/ studying in Australia \/ New Zealand for the last 6 years.<\/p>\n<p>The course will be held in English. The programme consists of a course on European affairs as well as study trips to Trier (Roman city, university), Luxembourg (European Court of Justice, city), Strasbourg (European Parliament, European Court of Human Rights, city with Christmas market), and Germany\u2019s former capital, Bonn (visiting the DAAD).<\/p>\n<p>Students will be expected to:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; pay a course fee contribution of EUR 100, to be paid on arrival by each participant<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; organise and pay for their own transport to Germany and back. Successful applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for university (or other) funding to cover these costs. In case no other funding (or only less) is available, the DAAD will pay a travel allowance of (up to) EUR 370 per person (to be paid out on arrival).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; organise and pay for their own medical insurance<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; bring along whatever pocket money they might need.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining costs of the programme, accommodation at the European Academy Otzenhausen (www.eao-otzenhausen.de), all meals and all excursions are paid for by the ASKO Europe Foundation, the Centre International de Formation Europ\u00e9enne (CIFE) and the DAAD.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Including arrival and departure days, the course will last two weeks, from 2 \u2013 15 December 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Please note: Students are expected to stay for the duration of the seminar. Graduates and Ph.D. students may also apply.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must be enrolled at an Australian or New Zealand university.
