{"id":2009,"date":"2012-07-11T18:02:25","date_gmt":"2012-07-12T01:02:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/?p=2009"},"modified":"2012-07-17T21:30:04","modified_gmt":"2012-07-18T04:30:04","slug":"student-leadership-in-international-cooperation-slic-project-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/blog\/2012\/07\/student-leadership-in-international-cooperation-slic-project-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Leadership in International Cooperation (SLIC) Project 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Summary<\/h2>\n<p>The Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education have provided the Go8 with funding for the establishment and implementation of a new \u2018Student Leadership in International Cooperation\u2019 (SLIC) Project between the Go8 and C9.<\/p>\n<h2>Objective<\/h2>\n<p>To develop proposals and ideas for cooperation between Australian and Chinese universities with the aim of promoting opportunities for outbound student mobility from Australia.<\/p>\n<h2>Program outline<\/h2>\n<p>The SLIC Project will support two separate groups of Go8 higher degree research students to undertake a two-week visit to a number of C9 universities in China during early-mid 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The program will support each student participant up to $5,000 for the cost of visiting the C9 universities, which may include airfares, accommodation or other costs associated with the visit.<\/p>\n<p>To view the program outline click <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/files\/2012\/07\/Student-Leadership-in-International-Cooperation-1.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>In order to apply students must be:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Australian citizens or permanent residents who have not previously lived or studied for more than one year in China.<\/li>\n<li>Must have completed at least one semester at UNSW and be enrolled in a research degree at UNSW in 2013.<\/li>\n<li>Able to demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal\/social skills, especially in an international setting.<\/li>\n<li>Able to work in a team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Note: Chinese language proficiency is not required<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Requirements and responsibilities<\/h2>\n<p>Students will be required to:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>(Before the trip)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>commit to the agreed travel timeframe and visit activities;<\/li>\n<li>organise relevant travel documents including visa applications (receipts and bank details to provide to the Go8 office for reimbursement);\n<ul>\n<li>provide scanned copies of their passports to the Go8 office for group flight booking purposes (passports should be valid for at least another six months after departure);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>(During the trip in China)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>travel within the student group;<\/li>\n<li>participate in all group activities that are listed in the visit program;<\/li>\n<li>abide by the regulations and rules of the hosting institutions;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>(After the trip)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>present their proposals and ideas at the debriefing event upon their return to Australia (some domestic travel may be involved), and provide a copy of their presentations to the Go8 office;\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>complete a short project report form (Go8 to provide later) and submit it to the Go8 at the debriefing event.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Higher degree research students who wish to apply must complete the SLIC Project application\u00a0and return to <\/strong><a href=\"mailto:advisor4globaled@unsw.edu.au\"><strong>advisor4globaled@unsw.edu.au<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0along with their resume, transcripts and\/or academic reference. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The application form can be found\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/files\/2012\/07\/SLIC-Project-GEP_Outgoing_UNSW-application.pdf\">here<\/a> and the deadline to apply is Friday August 31<sup>st<\/sup> 2012. <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary The Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education have provided the Go8 with funding for the establishment and implementation of a new \u2018Student Leadership in International Cooperation\u2019 (SLIC) Project between the Go8 and C9.
