{"id":2767,"date":"2013-02-19T21:38:41","date_gmt":"2013-02-20T04:38:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/?p=2767"},"modified":"2013-02-19T21:38:41","modified_gmt":"2013-02-20T04:38:41","slug":"the-national-university-of-singapore-offers-biodiversity-summer-programme-language-immersion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/blog\/2013\/02\/the-national-university-of-singapore-offers-biodiversity-summer-programme-language-immersion\/","title":{"rendered":"The National University of Singapore offers Biodiversity Summer Programme + Language Immersion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This 5-week summer\u00a0programme will be held from <strong>24 June to 26 July 2013<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0NUS with a <strong>1-week fieldtrip to\u00a0Pulau\u00a0Tioman (Malaysia).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Programme\u00a0Highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Capstone module:<\/em><\/strong> Students would read the module <strong>\u2018Field Studies in Biodiversity\u2019<\/strong> in which they will spend 1 week on\u00a0Pulau Tioman, Malaysia where they would experience unique tropical ecosystems such as rainforest, freshwater stream, mangroves and the coral reefs under the guidance of experienced field biologists<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Learn another language:<\/em><\/strong> Students will take introductory courses in either <strong>Chinese or Indonesian language<\/strong> &#8211; \u00a0Since learning a language is one of the best ways to understand a culture, why not take this opportunity to study a new language? Students are given the opportunity to learn either Mandarin\/\u00a0Bahasa Indonesia in a <strong>five-week intensive language<\/strong>-immersion course; both these languages according to Wikipedia are among the <strong>top 1<\/strong><strong>4<\/strong><strong> languages spoken in this world<\/strong>. Our language courses are designed to be fun and interactive taught by extremely patient and experienced teachers. Students do need to note that it is indeed a challenge to learn a language in just 5-weeks and hence will be expected to <strong>attend 3-4<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>hrs.<\/strong> of language classes 5 days a week! It is said that learning a new language is a self-discovery process.
