Its name comes from the tradition of using a dragon as a symbol for China and for people of Chinese ethnic origin as \u201cdescendants of the dragon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>2013 DRAGON 100<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Theme:<\/strong> Chinese Culture : Continuity and Innovation<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date:<\/strong> 9 August to 17 August 2013<\/p>\n<p><strong>Venue:<\/strong> Hong Kong &amp; Taiwan<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background and Rationale<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>China has gone through enormous changes and progress in social and economic institutions over centuries and also the migration of her people around the world, yet her culture remains its essence and a common language to let ethnic Chinese identify their origin and get united for any common concern. Taiwan is a typical place of succeeding traditional Chinese culture and also demonstrating vigour to instill new elements to let Chinese culture flourish in different aspects, where delegates will have the opportunity to review and appreciate the cultural heritage in a creative perspective.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Programme Highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Dragon 100 2013 would be the programme\u2019s 10th anniversary. To reunite past participants and create further synergy, a 10th Anniversary Conference and a Reunion Dinner will be held in Hong Kong for D100-2013 delegates and past delegates. During the 4-day Hong Kong programme, delegates will visit to local museums such as Hong Kong Heritage Museum &amp; Hong Kong Museum of History, to learn about the history &amp; culture of Hong Kong, participate in plenary sessions with guest speakers, join focus group discussions on the development of Chinese culture in Hong Kong conducted by relevant resource persons. The 5-day trip in Taiwan will include visits to historical sites &amp; museums, such as the National Palace Museum, sharing and seminars from Cloud Gate Dance Theatre &amp; cultural and education foundation established by large corporations, exchange with university students of Taiwan, and other cultural and social activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Delegation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>100 Worldwide Young Chinese leaders<\/p>\n<p><strong>Selection Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ethnic Chinese aged from 18-35<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Outstanding academically or professionally;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Award recipients or are exceptionally talented in a non-academic area, e.g. sports, arts, music or other forms of creativity;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 A consistent record of involvement in community service or an outstanding record in extracurricular activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Participants will be responsible for<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022Round trip airfare between country \/ place of nomination and Hong Kong<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Visa fees<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Out of pocket expenses<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Travelling \/ medical insurance (which we strongly urge all participants to purchase)<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The foundation is pleased to offer sponsorship for the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Round trip airfare from Hong Kong to Taiwan<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ground transport in Hong Kong and Taiwan<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Meals and accommodation (as stated in the final itinerary)<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>For full information please read the brochure <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/files\/2013\/05\/Dragon-100-2013-Pamphlet-2.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>To see highlights of previous years click <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/files\/2013\/05\/Dragon-100-Moments-of-Previous-Programmes.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UNSW students who would like to apply must complete the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/globaled\/files\/2013\/05\/GEP_Outgoing-application-20132.pdf\">GEP Outgoing application 2013<\/a> and submit no later than <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">9am Wednesday May 22<sup>nd<\/sup> 2013<\/span>.
