Amateur Histories reflects <\/strong>upon <\/strong>memory, <\/strong>subjectivity, <\/strong>reliability <\/strong>and <\/strong>interpretation <\/strong>in <\/strong>the <\/strong>telling <\/strong>of <\/strong>tales <\/strong>and <\/strong>in <\/strong>the <\/strong>authoritative formation <\/strong>of <\/strong>histories, <\/strong>with <\/strong>particular <\/strong>reference <\/strong>to <\/strong>the <\/strong>Rocks <\/strong>and <\/strong>Millers <\/strong>Point <\/strong>communities. <\/strong>Amateur <\/strong>Histories <\/strong>is <\/strong>being <\/strong>made <\/strong>through <\/strong>the <\/strong>NEIA, <\/strong>UNSW <\/strong>(National <\/strong>Institute <\/strong>for Experimental <\/strong>Arts, <\/strong>University <\/strong>of <\/strong>NSW) <\/strong>studio <\/strong>in <\/strong>partnership <\/strong>with <\/strong>SHFA. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The title attempts to remove historical hierarchy, and infers that in accounting for time, an amateur\u2019s account is as valid and vital as a professional\u2019s. Lived experience and learnt experience meet halfway.<\/p>\n

The video works in this exhibition set out to characterize Sydney through its inhabitants and to form an image of a city whose modern timeline is still in its infancy.<\/p>\n
