How to make the most of a university Open Day

Open Day season is fast approaching! Here are some essential tips on how to make the most of your university Open Day.

  1. Create a plan of action

Make sure you don’t miss out on opportunities at Open Day, by planning ahead.

A couple of things you could think about:

  • Research a few different universities and explore all of your options and plan to go to a few Open Days. You’ll be spending a good chunk of your young life there, so you want to make sure it’s a good fit.
  • Note down the dates and times for the Open Days. There’s nothing worse than traveling to a university for an Open Day on the wrong day, especially if you live far away!
  • Plan your days by checking the university open day schedule. This way, you won’t miss out on important lectures and all the fun stuff happening around campus.

  1. Bring along some support

Company is always good! They can give you a second opinion, help you navigate your way around a campus and be an extra set of hands to carry all your brochures/free goodies.

  1. Download all the important apps

Our favourite apps for the UNSW are the following:

  • UNSW Open Day app
  • Opal app, for organising travel around Sydney
  • UNSW Map app, so you can easily navigate around campus
  • Twitter and Instagram. To get real-time communication and to share your experience with others.

  1. Ask lots of questions

Don’t be afraid to speak up and take advantage of having access to students and staff that are there to help you.

  1. Chat to other Open Day attendees 

Use Open Day as an opportunity to make a new friend.  You never know, you might end up sitting next to each other in a lecture one day.

  1. Be a tourist 

Have an explore of the area and make the most of your time.  Especially if you are visiting from far away.

  1. Soak up the knowledge

Grab pamphlets and take a notepad and pen along with you so you can jot down important information.

  1. Have Fun

Open Days also have a wide range of fun activities, so once you’ve got all the information you need, make a day of it and enjoy yourself!
