8 students tell us why UNSW Sydney is so great

We caught up with a bunch of students on campus to find out the best thing about being at UNSW. Here’s what they had to say:

Aaron Mathew – Bachelor of Commerce / Bachelor of Laws

It has high rankings, plus international accreditation and recognition. It has a great atmosphere and helps its students with a collaborative environment. It just makes it a great place to study and to find yourself professionally and personally.

Louisa Hartley – Bachelor of Architectural Studies

Where I’m working during my studies, most of the people came from UNSW – it definitely acted as a leg-up within the work arena. I really like the campus, it’s a place I want to study and it’s really friendly. It’s welcoming and accepting.

Kirsten Banks – Bachelor of Science

  • There’s a telescope on top of one of the buildings! The university has a very welcoming feel to it. It’s a huge campus and it’s very exciting to see a whole new place for me to explore.

Kade Newell – Bachelor of International Studies

You can do overseas experiences that are incredible and invaluable – academically and personally. I went to Amsterdam and Singapore and you get to travel and meet wonderful people and make network connections. At UNSW there’s a lot of flexibility, being able to do exchanges not just for one semester – I did a year abroad and I undertook short courses overseas too.

Ashna Basu – Doctor of Medicine

My mentor, who I worked with for over a year, was recently awarded the Australian Mental Health prize. As early as my fourth year I got to work with someone like that and someone who is an Order of Australia, who has made a significant contribution within Australia and globally to mental health. I can’t foresee another circumstance in which I would’ve been able to learn from him in such a way.

Katherine Lo – Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) / Bachelor of Commerce

I remember after Year 12 I walked onto the campus during ‘O Week’ – and it was vibrant, very inviting, very friendly. Societies want you to join and people want to talk to you and it’s a very social university, so you get to meet people from different faculties. I didn’t get that feeling at the other universities when I went to their open days.

Khushaal Vyas – Bachelor of Arts/Law

Throughout your degree you are given constant assistance about how best to focus your research ability, you’re constantly learning how to find relevant information, how to apply it in real life. That means you can be on the front foot because you’ve got that head start that UNSW gives you. It makes the transition to the workplace environment a lot easier and you feel a lot more confident as a result.

Dennis Golding – Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours)

UNSW has created a great community environment, which is the most important thing that the university offers to students. In my degree, there are also great studio creative facilities and resources and fantastic opportunities that have been afforded to me. I would not have been able to create my work in the way I have if I didn’t have the studio space provided at UNSW.
