UNSW has almost 60,000\u00a0students and staff, and it seems like we are all hungry all the time.<\/p>\n

Our food courts reach\u00a0maximum capacity every\u00a0lunchtime and the lines for Boost Juice and Subway are always out the door – it’s clear we need more space allocated for more delicious food options.<\/p>\n

We spoke to UNSW Management about space\u00a0and on-campus food demand, and we got the low-down on new retail outlets and offerings planned for campus in 2017.<\/p>\n

Get excited.<\/h1>\n

\"Messina\"<\/p>\n

A very well known and loved Sydney Gelato institution<\/strong>\u00a0will be operating a mobile cart in the Commerce Courtyard from September\u00a02017. The cart\u00a0will offer\u00a0a limited selection of the most popular gelato options from their Sydney stores.<\/p>\n

\n

\"crackles\"<\/p>\n

Mr Crackles,\u00a0<\/strong>famous for its beloved and delicious pork rolls, will be opening a boutique hole-in-the-wall outlet underneath Morvern Brown,\u00a0next to Southern Wok – operating out of\u00a0the space currently taken up by that red ATM that nobody ever uses. \u00a0The boutique store\u00a0will offer rolls, hot dogs and sides from their regular menu.<\/p>\n

\"oporto\"<\/p>\n

Well-known fast food retailers Sumo Salad\u00a0<\/strong>and Oporto<\/strong> have applied to open mock-fronts\u00a0in the Pavilions in Semester 2, next to the currently solo Vietnamese Pho House. Side note: why has it been alone so long?<\/p>\n

Joining them in the Pavilions will be two independent vendors – Paleo Pete <\/strong>and The Veet\u00a0<\/strong>– offering cheap organic paleo and vegan options for our extremely health-conscious students and staff. We are looking forward to trying Paleo Pete’s sweaty\u00a0activated almond balls and The Veet’s sauteed kale sauerkraut and quinoa finger lime tabouleh.<\/p>\n

Now, the one you have been dreaming about…<\/p>\n

\"kfc\"All hail the Colonel! The one and only original KFC<\/strong> will be opening in the Quad in November\u00a02017, after the refurbishment of the Basser steps is complete and right in time for exams.<\/p>\n

After much discussion, it was decided the store should\u00a0be located above the UNSW Health Clinic, in a bid to remind our community members to make healthy decisions and encourage people to walk up\u00a0the Basser steps.<\/p>\n

\"budgy-unsw\"<\/p>\n

Budgy Smuggler<\/strong> will be selling UNSW themed swimwear, sports gear and underwear through our Grad And Gift Shop from October 2017.<\/p>\n

These new options will be great for those moments when you\u00a0have an accident in class\u00a0and need a spare, but also perfect for\u00a0representing UNSW Pride at the beach.<\/p>\n

\"betoota\"<\/p>\n

The Greenhouse<\/strong>\u00a0will be offering Betoota Bitter<\/a> on tap from July 2017.<\/p>\n

To accentuate\u00a0the fun fact that the Roundhouse\u00a0is now basically a marquee on\u00a0pallets in a paddock, the\u00a0Publican thought it was a great idea\u00a0to offer the finest country beer inspired by the country\u2019s finest newspaper. We agree.<\/p>\n

\nAnd finally: two brothers who also happen to be\u00a0UNSW Art & Design students, Dom and Adrian Van Vuuren, have applied to open their own new and\u00a0exclusive cafe<\/a>\u00a0behind Bar Navitas, with gourmet offerings including their trademarked Catachino.<\/p>\n

The exclusive cafe fit-out will be constructed in late 2017 and the shopfront will be ready for business in early 2018. However, the cafe\u00a0itself\u00a0will\u00a0never actually open to the public.<\/p>\n
