Location: 4th Floor F Block

Date: Friday 12th May

Time: 1.00 – 4 pm

The Studio for Transdisciplinary Arts Research at UNSW invites Art and Design staff to submit a brief abstract (max. 100 words) for a half-day symposium reflecting on the current context for their practice-led research project(s).

Present Idea will be part of a series of events focusing on practice-led research. The aim of these is to nurture independent practice and a collaborative research environment, enabling shared interests to emerge in the faculty (at a discursive and project level). It is envisaged that this will feed into broader synergies across UNSW and connections with university research communities more broadly, in local, regional and international contexts.

The symposium will be chaired and presentations will each be 15 minutes in length. A number of underlying questions form the motivation for the Symposium:

  • What are your key drivers and inspiration for creating art and design?
  • How does the creative process itself add to, extend, challenge, interact with the social world of ideas and practices?
  • How do practitioners identify innovation in relation to their engagement with materials, agency, temporality, society or other contexts?

Please forward abstracts by 7th April 5pm along with any general enquiries, to the Symposium organisers, Professor Paul Thomas p.thomas@unsw.edu.au and Dr. Julie Louise Bacon j.l.bacon@unsw.edu.au

The symposium will be published online and shared via the Transdisciplinary Art Research network.
