The Institute is located with a<br \/>\nrich external ecosystem of companies and researchers both locally and<br \/>\nglobally investing in this important domain. The ISCCI is led by Prof.<br \/>\nYvonne Rogers at UCL.<\/p>\n<p>We are looking for students willing to pursue a doctoral degree in<br \/>\ncomputer science around the following broad topics:<br \/>\n\u2022    How technology can help recognize, leverage, and support the<br \/>\nout-of-sight, hidden or forgotten resources of urban environments,<br \/>\nranging from volunteers to subterranean water systems and other<br \/>\nunderlying city infrastructures.<br \/>\n\u2022    How communities can encourage sustainable behaviours over time, for<br \/>\nexample, through meaningful visualizations and feedback about resource<br \/>\nusage to individuals and groups.<br \/>\n\u2022    How technology can give us an opportunity to reinvent new ideas of<br \/>\nplace and identity, considering the diversification &amp; proliferation of<br \/>\nnew types of communities in cities, with the aim to increase quality<br \/>\nof living and lower the barriers for mobility in our future connected<br \/>\ncities.<\/p>\n<p>The applicants should possess a good honours MSc degree (1st Class or<br \/>\n2:1 minimum) in Computer Science, Psychology,<br \/>\nHuman-Computer-Interaction or related disciplines. Candidates will be<br \/>\nexpected to work in teams comprising computer scientists, social<br \/>\nscientists, and psychologists, so an open attitude towards<br \/>\ninterdisciplinary research and teamwork is important. Candidates<br \/>\nshould have interest in at least two of the following research fields<br \/>\n(as well as a good command of English) language:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022    Human-Computer-Interaction,<br \/>\n\u2022    Augmented or Mixed Reality,<br \/>\n\u2022    Interactive 3D Computer Graphics,<br \/>\n\u2022    Interaction Design,<br \/>\n\u2022    Perceptual Psychology, and\/or<br \/>\n\u2022    Cognitive Sciences.<br \/>\n\u2022    Ethnography<br \/>\n\u2022    Data Mining, Machine Learning<br \/>\n\u2022    Crowed Sourced Data<br \/>\n\u2022    Data Visualization, Cartography<br \/>\n\u2022    Geoinformatics<br \/>\n\u2022    Big Data<\/p>\n<p>Fees are fully paid. Salary for the 4-year EngD position is \u00a318,090<br \/>\ntax free p.a., and \u00a315,590 tax free p.a. for the 3-year PhD positions.<br \/>\nThe closing date for applications is 5pm on 18th July 2012. Interviews<br \/>\nwill he held on July 26th and 27th. The start date is September 24th<br \/>\n2012 (though it can be postponed to January 7th 2013).
