OPEN CALL FOR SPRING SESSIONS<\/span><\/p>\n

\n*Deadline for applications: The 21st of April 2013 at 00:00h (GMT +1).*<\/span><\/p>\n

This is an open call for participating in the first edition of Spring<\/span>
\nSessions at Hangar <<\/span>http:\/\/www.hangar.org<\/a><\/span>> art production and research<\/span>
\ncenter based in Barcelona (Spain). The Spring Sessions are intensive and<\/span>
\ninterdisciplinary meetings between artists and other professionals for<\/span>
\ndeveloping a specific part of a larger research project.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Spring Sessions provide the opportunity to an artist to invite a<\/span>
\nprofessional from another discipline to work together in the development of<\/span>
\npart of a larger research project within the framework of a one month<\/span>
\nresidency in Hangar. One participant will be based in Barcelona and the<\/span>
\nother somewhere else. The person based elsewhere will be able to live in<\/span>
\nHangar\u2019s guest house during the development of the residency (one month).<\/span><\/p>\n

The first edition of Spring Sessions takes place in the framework of the<\/span>
\nHangar\u2019s project Grid Spinoza <<\/span>http:\/\/www.gridspinoza.net\/<\/a><\/span>>and the European<\/span>
\nproject Soft Control <<\/span>http:\/\/softcontrol.info\/<\/a><\/span>>. Grid Spinoza explores the<\/span>
\nprocesses, methodologies and dynamics of artistic and scientific research,<\/span>
\npaying attention to spaces of confluence and ways of transferring knowledge<\/span>
\nfrom one field to the other. The project is based on an online platform<\/span>
\nthat contains an open archive of articles and audiovisual interviews with<\/span>
\nartist and scientists. The project Soft Control is a platform where<\/span>
\nartists, scientists and other cultural operators open their laboratories<\/span>
\nand their research projects to a specialised and non-specialised audience.<\/span>
\nAt the same time the project is a framework for artist and scientist<\/span>
\nconstructively sharing knowledge and cultural models of critical thinking,<\/span>
\nactivism and experimentation.<\/span><\/p>\n

*Description of the elegible projects*<\/span>
\nOngoing artistic, theoretical or applied research projects that include<\/span>
\ncollaborative processes with other fields such as cultural studies,<\/span>
\nscientific research or technological development.<\/span>
\nThe part of the project to be developed in Hangar has to include the<\/span>
\nparticipation of a professional from another field, selected by the artist.<\/span><\/p>\n

*Eligible*<\/span>
\nArtists of all ages and nationalities that are carrying out a research<\/span>
\nproject and:<\/span>
\n– Option A: They are based in Barcelona and need to work during one month<\/span>
\nwith someone from another discipline based in another city. This person<\/span>
\nwill live in Hangar\u2019s guest house during the developement of the<\/span>
\nresidency<<\/span>http:\/\/hangar.org\/residencia\/<\/a><\/span>>(one month).<\/span>
\n– Option B: They are based in a different city from Barcelona but need to<\/span>
\nwork with a professional from another discipline based in this city. In<\/span>
\nthis case, the artist will live in Hangar\u2019s guest house during the<\/span>
\ndevelopment of the residency <<\/span>http:\/\/hangar.org\/residencia\/<\/a><\/span>> (one month).<\/span><\/p>\n

*Duration*<\/span>
\nThe duration of the first edition of Spring Sessions will be one month, in<\/span>
\nJune 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n

*Conditions*<\/span>
\n1. The artist or the professional from another field has to be based in<\/span>
\nBarcelona while the other has to be based somewhere else. The one based<\/span>
\nelsewhere will move to live in Hangar\u2019s guest house during the development<\/span>
\nof the residency (one month).<\/span>
\n2. Hangar will contribute to the residency with (amounts are before taxes):<\/span>
\n– Artist fee: 2.500 euros.<\/span>
\n– Invited professional fee: 1.000 euros.<\/span>
\n– Accommodation for one person in Hangar: 350 euros .<\/span>
\n– Work space in Hangar: 150 euros.<\/span>
\n– Production costs: 500 euros.<\/span>
\n– Use of equipments.<\/span>
\n– Technical assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Travel costs up to 450 euros.<\/span><\/p>\n

4.Artist, teacher and writer Simon Penny, who has a long history in<\/span>
\ninterdisciplinary practise internationally will be mentor of the residency.<\/span>
\nAlso the artist selected from this open call will participate in the<\/span>
\nworkshop \u201cArt\/Science Interdisciplinary Workshop\u201d directed by Simon Penny<\/span>
\nand held in Hangar mid- June.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. The artist selected from this open call will present the results of the<\/span>
\nresidency during May\/June 2014 when the second edition of Spring Sessions<\/span>
\nis going to take place in Hangar. The possibility to do this presentation<\/span>
\nby streaming can be considered.<\/span><\/p>\n

*Selection procedure*<\/span>
\nThe application must be in pdf format (sent by e-mail) and must include:<\/span>
\n1. A brief biography of the artist (2500 characters including spaces).<\/span>
\n2. Curriculum vitae (2500 characters including spaces).<\/span>
\n3. Brief description of the research field (2500 characters including<\/span>
\nspaces).<\/span>
\n4. Description of the research project including (2500 characters including<\/span>
\nspaces):<\/span>
\n– description of the part of the project to be developed in Hangar<\/span>
\n– work plan for the development of the project in Hangar<\/span>
\n– technical needs<\/span>
\n– name of the invited collaborator and agreement of collaboration.<\/span><\/p>\n

IMPORTANT: applications which do not include the required information<\/span>
\nand\/or exceed the extension limits will not be considered.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Selection Committee is composed by:<\/span>
\n– Roc Par\u00e9s, artist, professor and researcher in Interactive Communication<\/span>
\nof the University Pompeu Fabra and adviser of the Soft Control project for<\/span>
\nHangar.<\/span>
\n– Simon Penny, artist and professor in Studio Art, University of<\/span>
\nCalifornia, Irvine.<\/span>
\n– Reimund Fickert, project manager of the Barcelona Biomedical Research<\/span>
\nPark.<\/span>
\n– Manel Gonz\u00e1lez, innovation director of the Biomedical Research Center of<\/span>
\nthe Polytechnical University of Barcelona.<\/span>
\n– A person from one of the organisations composing the European consortium<\/span>
\nfor the Soft Control project.<\/span>
\n– Marta Gracia, research project coordinator of Hangar.<\/span>
\n– Tere Badia, director of Hangar.<\/span><\/p>\n
