{"id":1820,"date":"2013-06-15T01:09:11","date_gmt":"2013-06-15T08:09:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/tiic\/blog\/2013\/06\/cfp-the-artscience-curriculum-in-the-classroom-and-in-the-cloud\/"},"modified":"2013-06-15T01:09:11","modified_gmt":"2013-06-15T08:09:11","slug":"cfp-the-artscience-curriculum-in-the-classroom-and-in-the-cloud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/tiic\/blog\/2013\/06\/cfp-the-artscience-curriculum-in-the-classroom-and-in-the-cloud\/","title":{"rendered":"CFP The Art\/Science Curriculum in the Classroom and in the Cloud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">Call for Participation<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">Proposal deadline: July 20, 2013<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">Organizer: Adrienne Klein, The Graduate Center of the City University<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">of New York<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">In conjunction with the College Art Association 102nd Annual<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">Conference, to be held February 12-15, 2014 in Chicago, LEAF (Leonardo<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">Education and Art Forum) will present a panel titled \u201cThe Art\/Science<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">Curriculum in the Classroom and in the Cloud.\u201d If you have developed<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">or participated in instruction bringing together art and science, we<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">would like to give you the opportunity to share your experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">The Art\/Science Curriculum in the Classroom and in the Cloud<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">This panel will present examples of instruction bringing art and<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">science together in the university classroom. &nbsp;&nbsp;Each panelist will<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">have up to 20 minutes to describe his or her experiences, to be<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">followed by general discussion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">Art, science, and technology are linked in the minds of a small but<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">growing subset of faculty and administrators on campuses<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">internationally. The practice and potential benefit of interaction<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">between scientists, engineers, and visual and performing artists is<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">widely acknowledged, but what is the state of classroom instruction<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">that encourages art\/science interdisciplinary work? Submissions are<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">invited that showcase best practices in the integration of<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">art\/sci\/tech. Panelists will address questions including:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">\u2022<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">Are there courses in which students study and produce art informed<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">by science? How does this coursework fit into the curriculum?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">\u2022<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">How much science do art students need to understand, in order to<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">make credible work?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">\u2022<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">At what level is this coursework most appropriate; undergrad or graduate?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">\u2022<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">Is the New Media curriculum the appropriate home for courses<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">encouraging the inclusion of science (even though science and<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">technology are not synonymous)?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">\u2022<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">How can scheduling events outside of the classroom, such as<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">speakers, exhibitions and performances, promote cross-disciplinary<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">work?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">The session will also shine a light on the on-going Cloud Curriculum<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">initiative of Leonardo\/ISAST (The International Society for the Arts,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">Sciences and Technology). This initiative aims to create a<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">clearinghouse, in the form of an open-source wiki, to disseminate<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">examples of successful courses and course modules, building on ideas<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">and methods that transcend disciplinary boundaries, to promote the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">transformation of research and educational practices.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">Please submit an abstract (up to 200 words) to Adrienne Klein,<\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"mailto:aklein@gc.cuny.edu\">aklein@gc.cuny.edu<\/a><span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">, LEAF Chair, no later than July 20, 2013. Include<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">a brief biographical statement with mailing address, email address,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;text-align: -webkit-auto\">and phone and fax numbers.
