johannes.birringer@brunel.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\nThe context for this international workshop, the fifth Artaud Forum held at
\nBrunel Unversity, is the collaborative European project \u201cMetabody\u201d which
\nworks to redefine bodies in media, performance and design. Over the past
\nfew years, \u2018Metabody\u2019 has developed new architectures and immersive
\nenvironments which behave like living organisms that have an auditory,
\nvisual, and tactile sensory quality, with subtly changing states and
\naffordances, they can be worn and breathed, felt and imagined, transported
\nand taken off.<\/p>\n
We invite participants to join us and work with these concepts of
\nintegrative tactile experience, kinetic atmospheres, multiperspectival
\nspace, and unconscious perception.<\/p>\n
\u2018Metabody\u2019 counteracts dominant technologies and their prevalent tendency
\nto negate differences by reducing bodies and movements to prescribed forms
\nin current surveillance culture. \u2018Metabody\u2019 emphasizes openness, and
\nindeterminacy of embodied expressions as a key factor for a sustainable
\nsociety. This project also foregrounds the need for a new politics. The
\nworkshop & performance laboratory probes troubling interpretations of the
\nincreasing unrestrainment of capital, and capitalism\u2019s impact on all
\nsocial-economic, cultural, creative, and educational sectors in a shared
\ndeveloped world now expanded by massive migration and refugee movement. The
\nsustainability of democracy is an urgent theme for all those in the
\nperforming arts\/creative fields becoming intensely aware of the
\nmultiplication of realities (virtualization; networked infrastructures,
\ndiasporas) and the tightening of our bodies into technological
\nenvironments. This is a call for peripheral perception in existential
\nexperience.

Our theatre and studio spaces will be available for physical and conceptual
\nworkshop encounters over a period of three days (Thursday through Saturday,
\nApril 7-9), with prior lab and tech phases Monday through Wednesday, also
\npossuibly icludng an e-stitch\/textile workshop, followed by public
\nperformances, exhibitions, screenings, and urban situations on Friday and
\nSaturday.<\/p>\n
An enrollment fee s necessary to cover costs for technical arrangements.
\nThe fee for the three-day public event is \u00a3 75 (\u00a3 60 concession) for the
\nwhole, or \u00a3 30 (\u00a3 20 concession) per day.<\/p>\n
