We are pleased to announce the European conference of the Society for
\nLiterature, Science and the Arts (SLSA) at the University of
\nCopenhagen from June 13 to 16 2018 with the topic of GREEN. The call
\nfor participation has now been published, please distribute it widely

\nconjunctly by the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies, the Faculty
\nof Health and Medical Sciences\/Medical Museion and (OU)VERT, and wish
\nto make the event as fruitful as possible for UCPH\u2019s departments.The
\nmain conference site will be UCPH\u2019s Southern Humanities campus, other
\nevents and keynotes will take place at the Medical Museion, and at the
\nNational Gallery of Denmark (Statens Museum for Kunst) and others.<\/p>\n
\nSociety for Literature, Science and the Arts. It welcomes colleagues
\nin the humanities, the social sciences, the arts, all fields of
\nscience, medicine, engineering, computer sciences as well as
\nindependent scholars, artists and scientists, and explicitly promotes
\ninter- and trans-disciplinary exchange between literature, the arts,
\nthe natural sciences, medicine and technology.<\/p>\n
\nproviding a resolutely cross-disciplinary platform to explore one of
\nthe most pervasive and broadest tropes of our times. Alongside this
\ncentral theme, the organizers also welcome provocatively un-green and
\nprismatic proposals from experts in all academic disciplines and
\nprofessional fields.<\/p>\n
\nsocietal, philosophical and economic question not only in academia \u2013
\nyet there is much confusion about its meanings. Green is often
\npositively connoted. It has become pervasive across a broad range of
\ndisciplines, but far from having universal meaning, it marks a
\ndramatic knowledge gap prone to systematic misunderstandings:
\nEngineers brand \u2018green technologies\u2019 as ecologically benign, but
\nclimate researchers point to the \u2018greening of the earth\u2019 itself as the
\nalarming effect of anthropogenic CO2 emissions. \u2018Green growth\u2019 aims to
\nreconcile economic and ecologically sustainable development, while in
\nphilosophy \u2018prismatic ecology\u2019 rebukes the use of green to represent
\nbinary ideas of the other-than-human world as an idealized nature.
\nMore concept than color, green is often being reduced to a mere
\nmetaphor stripped of its material, epistemological and historical
\nreferents.<\/p>\n
