The technical and imaginative possibilities<br \/>\nof LED lighting will also be discussed.<\/p>\n<p>8:15-8:45:<br \/>\nMona El Khafif (California College of the Arts) on &#8220;City Space Share&#8221;<br \/>\nRevitalizing and transforming urban activity in a city center through<br \/>\nspatial strategies that recuperate<br \/>\nthe street frontage, promote productive inhabitation and initiate<br \/>\nmicro-urbanisms that support the local neighborhood.<br \/>\n8:45: \u00a0Piero Scaruffi on the next Leonardo Art\/Science evening<br \/>\nI will simply preview the line-up of speakers for the next Leonardo evening.<\/p>\n<p>Bios:<br \/>\nMona El Khafif is an Associate Professor of Architecture and Urban<br \/>\nDesign and Project Coordinator of the<br \/>\nCCA URBANlab, who holds a doctorate in urban design from the TU<br \/>\nVienna. El Khafif worked in<br \/>\narchitectural offices in Germany and Vienna, on projects which<br \/>\nreceived important urban design<br \/>\nawards including the Otto Wagner Urban Design Award for the<br \/>\nBUSarchitecture Homeworkers project<br \/>\nand the Ortner &amp; Ortner Museumsquartier. El Khafif is a founding<br \/>\nprincipal of phase 1<br \/>\nFox_El Khafif_Nuhsbaumer, a co-author of URBANbuild local global, and<br \/>\nhas recently<br \/>\npublished Staged Urbanism: Urban Spaces for Art, Culture and<br \/>\nConsumption in the Age<br \/>\nof Leisure Society in Germany. Zer01 Artist in Residence.<br \/>\nTherese Lahaie studied Fine Art at Emmanuel College and Glass<br \/>\nTechnology at Massachusetts<br \/>\nCollege of Art, Boston, MA. She is a kinetic sculptor using glass,<br \/>\nlow rpm motors and LED lighting<br \/>\nand also has a background in architectural lighting design. At a 2010<br \/>\nDjerassi Artist Residency she<br \/>\ncollaborated with NY choreographer Leigh Evans. Their performance<br \/>\ninstallation called &#8220;Quite Two<br \/>\nDeparture,&#8221; will be premiered at PS. 122 in NYC in July 2010.<br \/>\nChris Palmer is a Fine Artist who has specialized in traditional and<br \/>\nmodern geometric art, textile design,<br \/>\ntraditional ornament and folding. After four years teaching Digital<br \/>\nFabrication in schools of architecture<br \/>\nin Chicago (IIT) and the University of Colorado at Boulder he now<br \/>\nworks with Rob Bell in a design build<br \/>\nstudio in San Francisco CA. He is a member of an international design<br \/>\nteam doing architectural ornament<br \/>\nin middle eastern styles for the American Institute of Mathematics<br \/>\nResearch Conference Center in San Jose.<br \/>\nPiero Scaruffi is a cognitive scientist who has lectured in three<br \/>\ncontinents and published several books on<br \/>\nArtificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science, the latest one being<br \/>\n&#8220;The Nature of Consciousness&#8221; (2006).<br \/>\nHe pioneered Internet applications in the early 1980s and the use of<br \/>\nthe World-Wide Web for cultural purposes<br \/>\nin the mid 1990s. His poetry has been awarded several national prizes<br \/>\nin Italy and the USA. As a music historian,<br \/>\nhe has published ten books, the latest ones being &#8220;A History of Rock<br \/>\nMusic&#8221; (2003) and &#8220;A History of Jazz Music&#8221;<br \/>\n(2007). He has also written extensively about cinema, literature and<br \/>\nthe visual arts.
