{"id":926,"date":"2012-02-05T17:38:19","date_gmt":"2012-02-06T00:38:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/tiic\/blog\/2012\/02\/stem-to-steam\/"},"modified":"2012-02-05T17:38:19","modified_gmt":"2012-02-06T00:38:19","slug":"stem-to-steam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.unsw.edu.au\/tiic\/blog\/2012\/02\/stem-to-steam\/","title":{"rendered":"STEM to STEAM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\">STEM to STEAM is an international movement to integrate the Arts and<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Design into STEM ( Science,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education initiatives in the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">secondary school and university<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.steamthrougheducation.com\/\">http:\/\/www.steamthrougheducation.com\/<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\">The festival will have three primary audiences for the festival, with<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">three separate tracks pertaining to<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">the respective audience, all focusing on the correlation between art<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">and science.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\">The first audience is represented by DISD students, 6th \u2013 10th grade.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">This track will showcase the ample<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">amount of professions that utilize both art and science. It is aimed<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">at removing restrictive preconceptions<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">about career paths, opening their minds to interdisciplinary<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">professions. Through this track, the students<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">will learn how the arts are relevant in their own education and how<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">the implementation of the arts through<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">STEM can lead to creativity and innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\">The second audience is represented by their parents. The aim is to<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">promote the importance of establishing<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">a STEAM curriculum at a young age, in the home. Seeking a<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">representatives that can show the parents of<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium\">STEAM activities their child can participate in.
