Universitas 21 Summer School – Conflict Resolution – extended

Posted by on March 9th, 2011 · Uncategorized

University College Dublin is proud to host the 8th Annual Universitas 21 Summer School on Conflict Resolution July 11-19, 2011

The programme
The 2011 U21 Summer School will be a multidisciplinary exploration of Conflict Resolution. Participants will learn about the dynamics of conflict across a range of areas: politics, international organisations, war, labour relations, social and ethnic conflict, and ethics. They will critically examine the various ways in which conflict shapes the world we live in, and learn the skills which are critical to resolving it.

Case studies which are of particular relevance to the Irish experience will be considered in detail: for instance, students will gain unique insights into the Northern Ireland Peace Process and Good Friday Agreement, and hear first-hand from the key players involved in the process. This will coincide with a visit to Belfast where students will tour the peace walls, stop in Armagh, and visit the stunning Giant’s Causeway.

The Summer School will culminate in group projects where students will integrate what they have learned during the programme and employ their knowledge and skill in negotiation and mediation to resolve conflicts.
