The media industry in Malaysia is slightly different to Australia, due to the multicultural makeup of the country. There is a wide range of media outlets that focus on either Malay, English, Chinese, and even Tamil. However, there is an unofficial consensus that English is the universal language that links up all races. Freedom of press can be an issue with conventional media, particularly over political topics, however digital media outlets do not have this restriction.
Seeking an internship in an English-speaking media company can be a very rewarding experience. There are a number of reputable newspaper and radio outlets that can offer interns a unique glimpse into the lives of Malaysian people.
Gaining experience in television or radio production will also be very valuable should you wish to enter this industry in the future.
We have several reputable media companies on our roster, ranging from TV to print and radio.
