The Global Student is pleased to announce its latest partnership with a reputable international NGO in Siem Reap Cambodia. Cambodia is one of the poorer countries in SE Asia and in Siem Reap child exploitation is rapidly rising. NGO’s fight a constant battle to keep kids in school when they can often make more money begging at the many tourist attractions or in the night-life areas of town. Volunteers are placed in local NGO’s, orphanages and schools in teaching, admin or development roles. Placements must be for a minimum of 8 weeks and then in further 4 weeks blocks, with arrivals beginning on the third Wednesday of every month.
Cost: Packages start at $1500 for 8 weeks – includes accommodation, airport transfers, assistance with visa renewal, 4 day orientation program and access to 24 hour emergency assistance while in Cambodia.
Placement options All placements/host organizations are currently located in and around Siem Reap as this is where Interweave is based. Your placement will be influenced by your age, skills, education, experiences and age-group preferences as well as accounting to the needs of the projects at the time. The majority of placements are within the Education sector. Your main role as a volunteer will be to help teach English at your project, which could be a day care, school, college or community center in or around Siem Reap. Along with teaching English, volunteers could use their skills to help in the following areas at the projects:
• Arts, crafts, and musical development
• Sports coaching
• IT education
• Health and hygiene programs
• PR, marketing and fundraising
