U21 UG Research Conference – Fudan University

This years Universitas 21 Undergraduate Research Conference will be hosted by Fudan University.  The theme of the conference for 2011 is “Share Your Inspiration”.

Three outstanding undergraduates will be nominated by each U21 member university. Of these three students one student must be nominated to give an oral presentation, one to submit a poster presentation, one to submit a poster presentation, and the third one may be nominated to either category. Besides the three students, one staff member from each university will also be invited to this conference. All participants, students and staff, are invited to attend the sightseeing and cultural tours.

Costs:

The participants are expected to pay for their accommodation, food and transportation cost in leisure time.

  • Accommodation: 120 Yuan per day per person for the old building rooms or 170 Yuan per day per person for the new building rooms.
  • Food: Usually a meal cost 20-40 Yuan in the city for fast/easy food or 50-80 Yuan per person as ordering dishes in the restaurant.
  • Transportation: Day-pass metro ticket will be prepared by the host institution for all the participants. A typical metro ticket costs 3 to 6 Yuan for a single journey. All bus fare is 2 Yuan for a single journey. It costs about 35-50 Yuan from the campus to anywhere in the downtown by taxi which accommodates 4 persons at most.

U21 Graduate Research Conference on Food

Deadline – 15 April 2011

This will be the third for postgraduate research students from across the U21 network.

The topic “Food” represents an interdisciplinary topic that allows diverse and complementary research specialisms to contribute to solving some of the most important questions that face humankind.

A major objective of universities across the U21 network is to ensure that postgraduate students appreciate the value of belonging to rich intellectual communities in which a multiplicity of research is being carried out.

The chosen topic will allow the U21 postgraduate students to integrate science, engineering, health, social science, business, humanities and other subjects into a themed series of talks, posters and networking activities during the conference. This will include professional development activities on the nature and challenges of interdisciplinary research.

Registration costs for the U21 Graduate Research Conference are US $500 per student. This includes:
• Four nights bed and breakfast accommodation in Kuala Lumpar
• Bus transfers between venues during conference
• Lunch on each day of conference
• Welcome dinner on Wednesday 22 June
• Cultural Night Tour and dinner on Thursday 23 June
• International/cultural Gala dinner on Saturday 26 June

AustCham China Scholarship

Since 2005, AustCham Beijing has been providing young Australians with internship and career development opportunities across Greater China. To date, over 35 individuals have gained valuable work experience in China with many going on to take on management roles within their respective companies.

AustCham China Scholarship is a comprehensive career development platform aimed at fostering the next generation of Sino-Australian business leaders. Each year the scholarship brings to China 15 of Australia‘s top graduates from across a range of academic disciplines to undertake a full time, 9 month graduate traineeship. During the traineeship, the scholarship recipients receive return flights to China, Mandarin language training, access to the Chamber‘s professional business network, mentoring and sponsorship to attend business and industry seminars. At the end of the traineeship, exceptional individuals may be offered full time positions in the company.

Aussie Mate Program

The Aussie Mate Program is a great way to meet new people and get involved in the UNSW Exchange Program. The program aims to assist in welcoming our new incoming exchange students to UNSW and life in Australia. You don’t have to be an exchange student to take part – we are looking for friendly students from all faculties and backgrounds who are interested in getting to know new people (both exchange and other local students), helping them out as they settle into life in Sydney and having fun. We also hope that the program will give future outbound exchange students or returned exchange students a chance to make some connections before going overseas and to maintain them when they return.

COOL JAPAN SUMMER PROGRAM 2011

Meiji University will host “COOL JAPANSUMMER PROGRAM 2011” this summer from July 25 through August 5.

This program will introduce various aspects of Japanese culture that the world has become enamored with – including pop culture such as anime, manga, computer game, music, fashion, architecture。ュas well as traditional heritages. It is a series of academic and enjoyable lectures, workshops and field trips in Tokyo and Kyoto.

Universitas 21 Summer School – Conflict Resolution – extended

University College Dublin is proud to host the 8th Annual Universitas 21 Summer School on Conflict Resolution July 11-19, 2011

The programme
The 2011 U21 Summer School will be a multidisciplinary exploration of Conflict Resolution. Participants will learn about the dynamics of conflict across a range of areas: politics, international organisations, war, labour relations, social and ethnic conflict, and ethics. They will critically examine the various ways in which conflict shapes the world we live in, and learn the skills which are critical to resolving it.

Case studies which are of particular relevance to the Irish experience will be considered in detail: for instance, students will gain unique insights into the Northern Ireland Peace Process and Good Friday Agreement, and hear first-hand from the key players involved in the process. This will coincide with a visit to Belfast where students will tour the peace walls, stop in Armagh, and visit the stunning Giant’s Causeway.

The Summer School will culminate in group projects where students will integrate what they have learned during the programme and employ their knowledge and skill in negotiation and mediation to resolve conflicts.

Staff members from across the U21 network who are active in teaching or research relating to any facet of Conflict Resolution are invited to contribute to the academic programme Academic staff members who wish to discuss their potential involvement in the Summer School should contact Caroline Vasicek (details below).

Registration
Each U21 member can send up to 4 students and 2 staff members with an interest in Conflict Resolution. Registration forms will be available for download through the U21 website in February and the deadline for students and staff to register will be 20 April 2011.

Fees

Registration for the UNSW nominated students will be paid by UNSW and a travel scholarship of $500 will be given to students towards travel.

€650 per student, to include accommodation, breakfast and lunch each day, Welcome and Farewell dinners, weekend trip to Belfast, Armagh and Giant’s Causeway. Students will need their own spending money for dinners on free nights, transfers to and from the airport, and personal costs while exploring Dublin and Belfast. Fees should be collected by the sending institution, and then paid to UCD by bank transfer. Further details will be made available in the coming months.
