For the June MedEd meeting, we have put together a very interesting and hopefully inspiring session about designing assessment of courses.

MedEd meeting Wed 13th April – Issues in Assessment

The first MedEd seminar meeting of the year is on Wed 13th April 12-1pm in Lower Ground Seminar Room of Wallace Wurth.

Prof Phil Jones will lead a discussion on identifying and tackling key issues in assessment in medical education. From this discussion we hope to identify key topics for future seminars.

UNSW Network of Work Integrated Learning Educators (WILEd)

This new network group has great relevance to clinical teachers in the medical program and practice-based supervisors in the exercise physiology program.

The UNSW Network of WILEd is for academic and professional staff members who are involved in professional placements or practicums, fieldwork, industrial training, cooperative education, field education, service learning, international or local, internships, volunteering, mentoring and other work integrated learning opportunities for students. Learning & Teaching @ UNSW and Careers and Employment have collaborated on this project to develop a University wide network of educators who work within a professional placement context. The network group will meet 4 times per semester to share best practice and participate in focussed discussions on topics such as:

  • Preparation of students
  • Teaching / Supervision
  • Career Development Learning
  • Assessment
  • Evaluation
  • Systems
  • Legal & Risk

4th May, 1st June, 13th Jul, 24th Aug, 5th Oct and 23rd Nov

Venue: Learning and Teaching @ UNSW, Level 4, Matthews Building

L&T FORUM 5th May 2011 – Assessment As Learning

The 2011 Semester 1 Learning & Teaching Forum is open to all UNSW staff with an interest in learning and teaching.

9.30am – 2.00pm (registration from 9am)

The keynote speaker is Associate Professor David Carless, Head of the Division of English Language Education, Faculty of Education, University of Hong Kong.  David has written extensively about learning-oriented assessment, feedback and trust in relation to higher education assessment.  He was the director of the LOAP research project (Learning Oriented Assessment Practices), an initiative promoting assessment change across universities in Hong Kong.  An output from the project was a practical sourcebook, How Assessment Supports Learning (Hong Kong University Press).

The 2011 Semester 1 Learning and Teaching forum will:

  • Focus on assessment as an integral part of learning
  • Explore the role feedback plays in assessment
  • Showcase some technologies that can help us assess learning and improve feedback
  • Identify areas for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our assessment practices

Welcome to the MedEd Interest Group @ UNSW

The MedEd Interest Group formed in November 2006 following a research presentation forum held at UNSW. It aims to bring together medical faculty staff interested in education issues to support scholarly practice, encourage research and create new networks amongst its members.

Our main activities include this new Blog, a monthly seminar series, a monthly newsletter, and an annual research forum. We will keep you in touch with upcoming grants, conferences, awards and new L&T publications, innovations and lots, lots more..
