SYNOPSIS:  The Australia-Indonesia Institute (AII) invites applications from young Australians aged between 21 and 25 years (at the time of departure to Indonesia), willing to represent Australia for two months in Indonesia during December 2011 to February 2012 as members of the AIYEP 2011/12. The program aims to provide wider opportunities for young people from Indonesia and Australia to appreciate the culture, development and way of life of each other’s country and to build groups of young and potentially influential people in both Australia and Indonesia who have knowledge and personal experience of the two countries and who develop close and enduring links with each other.

OBJECTIVES:  The program aims to provide wider opportunities for young people from Indonesia and Australia to appreciate the culture, development and way of life of each other’s country and to build groups of young and potentially influential people in both Australia and Indonesia who have knowledge and personal experience of the two countries and who develop close and enduring links with each other.

Participants will be chosen from applicants undertaking tertiary studies or employed in any one or more of the following areas: Agriculture, Arts, Music, Asian Studies, Economics, Business, International Relations, Education, Engineering, Science, Environmental Management, Journalism, Media, Information and Communications Technology, Law, Health, Politics, Sport, Tourism and Hospitality.

ELIGIBILITY:  The AIYEP is open to young people aged between 21 and 25 years at the time of departure to Indonesia, who satisfy the following minimum requirements: Australian citizenship; an active or emerging interest in Indonesia; good Indonesian language skills or a strong aptitude to learn; the personality and background to effectively act as a young ambassador for Australia; professional/personal skills in the areas nominated by the AII such as in group dynamics, interpersonal/relationship development, public speaking and cultural/artistic performance; ability to adapt to different living environments and contribute to group well-being; ability to promote the value and aims of AIYEP in their personal behaviour during the exchange; availability to participate in training prior to departure; and good health.

FUNDING: In Australia, the cost of the program, including air fares and accommodation, are the responsibility of the AII. In addition, the AII is, under the present Agreement, responsible for the international travel of all participants. In Indonesia, the cost of the program, including travel, accommodation and meals are the responsibility of the Indonesian Government. A basic outfit for the Australian participants is also paid for by the AII, but participants will be required to provide or purchase at their own expense: shoes; personal travel insurance; any compulsory medical vaccinations; passports and departure taxes; personal spending money; clothing and any other incidental costs.  (elg)
