From 5th to 8thSeptember 2012, the University of Lausanne (UNIL, Switzerland) is hosting the 5th World Student Environmental Summit (WSES). Student delegates from the five continents will once more gather to discuss pressing environmental issues, sharing their experiences and backgrounds to build up or support momentum for sustainability on campuses worldwide and in their local communities, and, who knows, on a larger scale if possible.

UNIL and its Student Organizing committee are pleased to invite two of the University of New South Wales’s student representatives to the 5th World Student Environmental Summit to be held in Lausanne, Switzerland. The following event will be held on the University’s campus overlooking the Lake Geneva.

The WSES brings together student leaders of universities worldwide to share perspectives and discuss environmental issues. The delegates will also have the chance to participate in interactive and engaging workshops and conferences about the topic.

Throughout the four day summit, the delegates will learn from and collaborate with inspiring speakers on how they – the leaders of tomorrow – can make a positive impact beyond the borders of their universities.

The focus of the 5th WSES is set on ‘change’ itself. Change will be addresed at three different levels:

  • International Organisations and Institutions
  • National, regional and local communities
  • Individual Actions

At the end of the summit, the delegations will be invited to define a code of conduct within the theme of ‘change’ based on the above mentioned levels.

The University of Lausanne will cover students’ expenses during the whole four-day conference, however students will be responsible for their own travel related expenses.

UNSW students participating in this program may also be covered by UNSW insurance. UNSW students who wish to apply for this program must complete the GEP_Outgoing_UNSW applicationv2 and return to advisor4globaled@unsw.edu.au by March 1st 2012. Successful applicants will be notified by March 15th and will be required to submit a secondary application direct to the University of Lausanne.
