Mitsui Educational Foundation 21 day Study Tour of Japan!

The Mitsui Educational Foundation is once again offering this wonderful opportunity to one lucky UNSW student!

What is this opportunity?

A 21 day study tour will take Australian university students though various regions of Japan, providing opportunities to learn about Japanese culture, society, business and industry, as well as participate in a number of people-to-people exchanges. All airfares, transport, meals and accommodation will be met by the Mitsui Education Foundation.

When is it?

19th November – 10th December 2013

Example Itinerary

  • Places of historical significance such as Kyoto, Nara and Hiroshima;
  • Visits to various Japanese companies and factories;
  • Homestay with a Japanese family;
  • Weekend with Japanese university students who will commence employment with Mitsui next year;
  • Attending a lecture at Keio University with their Japanese students;
  • Meeting with the Australian Ambassador to Japan;
  • Experience of the nature in Japan such as Hakone and Miyajima Island;
  • Experience of the Japanese tradition such as hot spring and tea ceremony; and
  • Various tourist destinations in Tokyo including temples, shrines and museums.

Please note this is NOT a recruitment exercise by Mitsui.

Eligibility

1. Are a full-time, on-campus undergraduate student at UNSW in second year or above

2. Are Australian citizens

3. An overall WAM of 70+ with no fails

4. Can clearly demonstrate a keen interest in learning broadly about Japan, and could most benefit from the MEF experience

5. Will act as outstanding ambassadors for UNSW, the state of NSW, and Australia on the tour

**Study of Japan/Japanese language is not required to be eligible for the tour.

How to apply

Students must complete the MEF Application Form and return to advisor4globaled@unsw.edu.au. Please note that the application should also include:

  • Academic Statement stamped by Student Central. 
  • 500 words (or less) explaining what interest you most about Japan, and why? 
  • scanned copy of passport photo (original to be submitted if selected) 

The application and supporting documents must be submitted electronically in one pdf file. Please do not send documents separately. Any applications that are not submitted in this format will not be accepted.

Deadline to apply

Midnight, Sunday May 12th 2013.

 

Shortlisted Students

10 students will be shortlisted for interviews. All students must be available on Thursday May 23rd 2013.
