The program runs for six weeks, from 10 January to 22 February 2014, and is open to undergraduate students from all degree disciplines.

Participants will learn about Latin America and Mexico’s current and future economic, political and social situation through thematic lectures delivered in English and have the opportunity to improve their language skills through daily two-hour Spanish classes of no more than 15 students.

As well as classroom-based learning, the program offers opportunities to discover Mexican culture through homestay accommodation, a wide variety of activities, excursions and a five-day study tour.

  • Living with a Mexican family provides students with a welcoming, homely environment in which they can learn about daily life and use their Spanish skills in everyday contexts.
  • Students will gain an insight into Mexican business culture through lunches with representatives from some of the country’s top institutions and see for themselves how businesses operate on company visits.
  • Cultural activities allow students to try out Mexican dancing and cooking and practice their language skills through tandems with Mexican students and movie nights.
  • Participants will experience Mexico’s rich and varied cultural heritage through several one and two-day excursions in Mexico City and the surrounding area.
  • NEW – The program ends with a study tour to the state of Chiapas during which students will gain a greater understanding of the country’s traditions, folklore and people through talks from local guest speakers, visits to Mexican institutions and free time to explore the region independently.
