Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) offers an opportunity to conduct research and experience Korean culture during January and February 2014!

Overview

• Period: Early January – February 2014 (5 weeks)*

• Monthly stipend: KRW 250,000 (for undergraduates only)

Program Contents

• Weekdays: Individual Research & Korean Language Program

• Weekly Activities*

– Week 1: Orientation, Welcome Lunch & Campus Tour

– Week 2: POSCO Tour & Pohang City Tour

– Week 3: Trip to Gyeongju & Korean Culture Program

– Week 4: Celebration of Lunar New Year’s Day

– Week 5: Snow Festival

* Activity plans subject to change

Credit Hours

• Students will not receive a credit for research and language class.

• Certificate of Completion may be issued at the request of students.

• Students should ask an exchange advisor for the home university’s credit policy.

Housing

• On campus housing is provided for all international students.

• Fees: KRW 400,000 / Program

• Generally placed in DICE (Dormitory for International Cultural Exchanges)

Program Eligibility

• Undergraduate and graduate students may apply, however the stipend will be provided to undergraduates only.

• Open to local and international students

Application Process

1)       Students are advised to contact supervising professors at POSTECH for their proposed research program. They can find the list of professors on the websites of each department. The university website is www.postech.ac.kr and students can contact any professor whose research areas are related to their academic interests via e-mail.

2)       Once students are approved by advising professors, students complete the application form and return it to the Global Education Coordinator. Please email advisor4globaled@unsw.edu.au for the application. Applications must also include: a UNSW transcript, recommendation letter from a UNSW academic and a copy of the ID page of passport. Our office is located on Level 16, Mathews Building, Kensington Campus. Hard copies must be submitted.

3)       The UNSW Global Education Coordinator will forward the applications to POSTECH. The final acceptance is at the discretion of POSTECH.
