TECNOLÓGICO DE MONTERREY – Campus Cuernavaca Summer School 2012

Tec de Monterrey Campus Cuernavaca is offering an exciting opportunity for summer study in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Cuernavaca International Summer School (CISS) is a six-week summer program that offers both graduate and undergraduate students as well as working professionals an opportunity to study abroad in Mexico and to gain new knowledge and competency in Latin American area studies and Spanish language.

The CISS 2012 program is designed for students majoring in Spanish language, Education, Latin American Culture and History, Business, Management, Engineering, Computer Science, Communication, Media studies, Film and Television, or Radio.

Additionally, there are 3 special Diploma Courses for international students coming to the campus in summer. These are:

Participants will live with a Mexican Host Family in a double room and will be provided 3 meals daily Monday through Saturday, on Sundays they will be able to prepare their own meals.

Blue Award 2012: Vienna University of Technology

Topic: Sustainability 

The Department for Spatial and Sustainable Design, Vienna University of Technology organizes together with the Society of Architecture and Spatial Design biannually the BLUE AWARD, an international student competition for sustainable architecture.

The competition is open to university students of Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree programs, as well as students working on a diploma thesis or dissertation, in the academic fields of architecture, urbanism or regional planning. The submitted project must be part of a supervised coursework, having taken place during one of the following semesters: Summer Semester 2010, Winter Semester 2010/11, Summer Semester 2011 and Winter Semester 2011/12.

The competition awards projects addressing the topic of sustainability.  The economical, cultural and social dimensions of sustainable development should be equal in significance to the classical problems of technique and function.

The Blue Award 2012 will be handed out in three categories.

Category 1 – Urban Development and Transformation, Landscape Development
Category 2 – Ecological Building
Category 3 – Building in Existing Structures

The British architect Sir Michael Hopkins will be Honorary President of the jury.

Awards Ceremony and Exhibition Opening will take place on April 26, 2012 at the TU Vienna.

Catalog:  the prize winners will be published.

U21 Social Entrepreneur Corps, Guatemala June 24 – July 21 2012

This is an opportunity for U21 students to take part in a month-long programme (June 24 – July 21, 2012) in Guatemala, working with social entrepreneurs to help establish new and growing businesses.

The U21 Social Entrepreneur Corps in Guatemala programme builds on the U21 institutions’ expertise in social entrepreneurship, online and blended learning, international collaboration and service learning, as well as on our common commitment to global citizenship. Social entrepreneurship as a topic and Guatemala as a location are already part of individual U21 members’ study abroad programme offerings. The proposed U21 Social Entrepreneur Corps programme is a tailored approach to study abroad that combines global collaboration, new technologies and impact-oriented learning activities.

For the proposed four-week-long U21 programme, students interested in international development will work directly with Social Entrepreneur Corps field professionals and social entrepreneurs in Guatemala to help establish new and grow existing micro-consignment supported businesses. The benefits include exposure to economic theories of social entrepreneurship and active engagement with case study analyses, Spanish language, and Guatemalan, including Mayan culture. The students will experience living with the local families and working intensively with community service organizations, and local social entrepreneurs.

Our students will make a tangible difference in people’s lives, while also acquiring the knowledge, skills, and habits necessary to become socially aware, active global citizens. The programme is designed as a short-term summer opportunity for U21 students.  This programme aims to complement the already existing U21 Summer School and Global Issues programme.

Participant profile

Eligibility criteria (administrative evaluation):

  • Undergraduate student currently enrolled in a Universitas 21 member institution
  • Class status: 2nd Year, 3rd Year, 4th+ Year
  • Academic area: all
  • Recommended GPA: 3.4 (U.S.) or equivalent
  • Nominated as potential participant by the home university

 Language:

  • Instruction will be primarily in English
  • Field work will be primarily in Spanish (intensive instruction on site)

Selection criteria (evaluated through essay and interview):

  • Proven interest in international development work;
  • Strong motivation for participation;
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong interest in helping to empower others;
  • Ability to empathize with individuals of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds;
  • Open-mindedness;
  • Flexibility;
  • Willingness to work hard under challenging developing country conditions;
  • Sense of humour!

Please note there is a fee of US$2,900 per student, not including airfare, visa costs and health insurance.

Students wishing to apply for this program must first be nominated by UNSW. Please complete the GEP_Outgoing_UNSW applicationv2 and return to m.kofod@unsw.edu.au or c.schedlich@unsw.edu.au by February 10th 2012. If nominated students will then be required to complete a secondary application which will include an alternate application, CV and a two-page essay detailing their motivation, experience and expectations in relation with the programme. This will be due by February 26th 2012.

Ljubljana Summer School 2012 – Take the Best from East and West

India Study Abroad Center – Film and Media Program

India Study Abroad Center’s Film and Media Program is a 4 week immersion that allows you to witness the inner workings of a land called Bollywood.

Set in the bustling metropolis of Mumbai and divided into four weeks of meetings, field trips and project work this is a great opportunity for students of cinema, liberal arts or simply those with a passion for cinema.

Watch films, meet film-makers, visit film/television/music video sets, learn about post-production processes and eventually make your own short film.

Stockholm University School of Business – Summer Program 2012

Once again Stockholm University School of Business is offering a wonderful summer program for students at partner institutions!

This year they will be offering three courses over their summer period:

Summer School in Frankfurt – Development Finance

The Summer School allows Bachelor students in the final year of their studies or Master students with a knowledge of the area of Finance to develop their development finance skills in one of Europe’s leading financial centres: Frankfurt am Main.

When you opt for this course you are also choosing to benefit from the immediate proximity of prestigious financial institutions such as the European Central Bank (EZB) and the German Central Bank (Deutsche Bundesbank). Staged on the Frankfurt School campus over two weeks in July 2012, the Summer School will combine a challenging academic programme with the opportunity to network with and enjoy the company of your fellow students.

Content & Objectives
The Summer School is designed to expose students to some of the problems and challenges involved in the field of development finance. The programme delivers an introduction to the topic: What is development finance and microfinance? You will work on case studies in small groups, e. g. on microbanking in Mexico; you will discuss projects in the area of fund models; you will meet with practitioners in the area of microfinance; and you will get to visit organisations such as the KfW or GIZ.

The Alte Oper, Städel and Schirn Kunsthalle are all cultural venues with global reputations, ready to inspire you with the finest in music and art.

Excursions to Heidelberg and the Rheingau
The Summer School is undeniably about work and learning – but this doesn’t mean your two-week stay won’t also be enjoyable. Besides seeing the sights in Frankfurt, you will also join a trip to Heidelberg, where the attractions include the world-famous castle, the vibrant student scene, many fine restaurants, shopping opportunities and cultural offerings.

Frankfurt also is close to Germany’s famous wine-growing region, the Rheingau. Students will get to visit the monastery in Eberbach where the film “Name of the Rose” was shot. Along with one of the most famous and best preserved cloisters, the monastery also owns the renowned “Steinberg” vineyards, where Cistercian monks ran a prosperous business back in the Middle Ages.

University of Sussex International Summer School 2012

The International Summer School at the University of Sussex, England welcomes hundreds of international students each summer from the end of June to mid August. 

The International Summer School provides an opportunity to meet and study with people from different countries and cultures, on a cosmopolitan campus. The University campus is on the edge of Brighton, a friendly city by the sea that could have been designed for students. The campus is a refreshing contrast, set in open parkland, with an excellent range of social and academic facilities. London is less than an hour away from Brighton by train.

Why Study at Sussex?

Sussex is considered one of the most exciting British universities at which to study. It was founded in 1961 and quickly established an international reputation for the quality of its research and for innovative and effective styles of teaching, attracting scholars from all over the world. Copenhagen Business School’s International Summer Universty Program (ISUP) 2012

For the fourteenth consecutive year  Copenhagen Business School is offering the International Summer University Program. The program is a six week summer program taking place from June 23rd – to August 3rd 2012.

Students can take a wide range of classic businesss courses, as well as more diverse courses that draw on other academic disciplines, for instance Humanitarian Operations and Social Media Marketing.
