Education for Sustainability | International Greening Education Event 2010

Posted by on July 19th, 2010 · Conference, Self funded

A three-day International Event on Greening Education will be held from 27th to 29th of October 2010 in the “green” city of Karlsruhe, Germany. This event will take academia, education and environmental policy makers, senior members of academic institutions, representatives of government and non-governmental organisations and international development agencies, teachers, sustainable development and environmental management professionals and other stakeholders through the need for greening education and then discuss effective initiatives that can be taken to translate “education for sustainability” in to actions.

Further to the knowledge sharing on greening education including topics such as ecologizing curriculum (incorporating sustainability), greening of courses and creating low carbon education institutions; the upcoming event also provides an excellent networking opportunity with academia, sustainable development practitioners and other stakeholders in Europe and beyond. An excursion (optional) on Saturday the 30th of October, 2010 is planned which will also provide an additional and informal networking opportunity.

UNSW students are invited to attend this international event.  Contact m.kofod@unsw.edu.au to be nominated to represent your institution.

For further information, please see the event details.

Scholarships for Winter Courses in Germany

Posted by on June 29th, 2010 · Scholarship Opportunities, Short courses

In co-operation with the Universities of Duisburg-Essen, Freiburg, Cologne, Leipzig and the IIK Duesseldorf, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is once again offering scholarships for a 6-week Deutschlandkundlicher Winterkurs from January to February 2010. This is an exciting opportunity for students and junior faculty members with a sound knowledge of German (min B1, preferably B2) wanting to improve their language skills and their understanding of contemporary affairs.

The course is open to all Australian and New Zealand undergraduates, graduates and junior faculty members, except graduates involved in German and German faculty courses. All lectures of the Deutschlandkundlicher Winterkurs will be held in German.

I am attaching the official course and scholarship announcement, an application form, a recommendation form and a language skills form as well as a course overview for distribution to interested students and junior faculty members.

Please note that due to the global financial crisis, unfortunately the travel allowance as well as the number of scholarships had to be reduced compared to previous years.

WHO global eHealth photo competition

Posted by on June 29th, 2010 · Competition, Uncategorized

**DEADLINE July 16th, 2010**

The World Health Organization Global eHealth Observatory has launched a unique (first time for this WHO unit) photo competition for any faculty members or students from any university to submit photographs representing either telehealth or mobile health (e.g. using cell or smart phones to deliver health services) for this competition.  Winners’ entries will be featured in upcoming WHO publications in these two areas.  Please see the attached flyer ( WHO Geo Photo Contest)  for your information.  The deadline for photo submission is *July 16th, 2010*.

This competition is *NOT* restricted to health sciences faculties and schools only, but open to all faculty members and students from any faculty or school within a university.

WHO don’t plan to publish on these topics again until two to three years from now when they are anticipating to do their next global survey on telehealth and mobile health.

As this competition is open to all universities, it would be great if we could have submissions by our students at UNSW.
