Intensive Japanese Language and Culture Study Program – Kwansei Gakuin University

Kwansei Gakuin University’s Centre for Japanese Language Education is pleased to announce the 3-week Intensive Japanese Language and Culture Study Program. The program will be running from July 16th – August 1st. 2015

This course is aimed mainly at students with very little Japanese language education background, who will learn the basic skills; reading, writing, listening and speaking over the period of the course.

The program is not limited to classroom learning, and participants will enjoy exchange events with Japanese students, and use their Japanese skills in real life situations such as going shopping on the streets of Japan.

Furthermore, in order to deepen their understanding of Japan, students will also enjoy classes on Japanese food and traditional culture, as well as a field trip to Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan.

Radboud University Summer School

Registration is now open for Radboud University Summer School which will take place from August 2 to 15, 2015.

Students will have the opportunity to boost their knowledge by choosing English taught courses from a unique range of academic programmes and take part in exciting social activities.

Courses are offered in the fields of Arts & Languages, Brains & Behaviour, Business & Economics, Health Care, History & Politics, Philosophy & Religion, Science and Social Sciences. Applications are open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

CISaustralia: July in Los Angeles, California at UCLA

As part of CISasutralia’s ‘July in Los Angeles, California’ program, students can escape the Australian winter and study for 6 weeks as an international student at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Students can choose 2 short-courses from a multitude of disciplines – business, management, finance, accounting, humanities, the arts, social science, sociology, anthropology, history, communications, journalism, health, IT and engineering. With access to  on and off campus living options and all of the university facilities—including multiple gyms, pools and libraries.

How to Apply: To apply through CIS Australia please click here. In order to successfully complete the application, students must prepare a copy of their passport photo page, a scanned copy of your most current Australian University transcript, and a short passage describing why you wish to study with CISaustralia.

UNSW students selected for this program must also complete the GEP Registration Form 2015 and email to advisor4globaled@unsw.edu.au by 9am on Monday, March 20th.

Credit Transfer Process: As this is a fee-paying program students must apply for credit through Cross Institutional Studies. If you have any questions about how this works please email advisor4globaled@unsw.edu.au.

Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Smartraveller Overseas Safety & Insurance Advice

Global Education is a high priority at UNSW. Global Education options are being embedded across all undergraduate degree programs through the introduction of a range of international programs. Student safety and well-being is a vital part of our office’s operation.

To ensure young travellers are more aware of the risks overseas and better prepared to deal with situations when they go wrong, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has created a new guide to assist travelers to understand and buy travel insurance.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade department encourages more students travelling overseas for study or a holiday to subscribe to the free country travel advice (or through Facebook/twitter), so they receive emailed updates each time the department reissues new risks.

Students can also access the ‘young travellers’ page and a new CHOICE-DFAT-Travel Insurance Cheat Sheet created for students which highlights the range of issues they should consider as part of any overseas trip.

Ewha Woman’s University in Seoul

Registration for the 2015 Ewha International Co-ed Summer College (Ewha ISC) is now open.

Ewha ISC welcomes undergraduate and graduate students to discover Korea through concentrated academic studies and many intercultural experiences. To accommodate diverse student needs, the 2015 Ewha ISC programs will run two separate sessions: Session I (June 23 – July 22, 2015) and Session II (August 6 – August 20, 2015).

All classes are conducted in English. Students will have the opportunity to participate in 2 day cultural excursion trips, take classes with students from around the world and earn course credit from a wide array of courses offered. If students are interested, on-campus housing will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

University of Connecticut U21 Social Entrepreneur corps in Guatemala

The U21 Social Entrepreneur Corps in Guatemala program builds on the expertise U21 institutions have to offer in social entrepreneurship, online and blended learning, international collaboration, service learning, and a common commitment to global citizenship.

The proposed U21 Social Entrepreneur Corps program differs from existing offerings in that it is a tailored approach to study abroad that combines global collaboration, new technologies and impact-oriented learning activities.

During the fieldwork phase of this program, students will be placed with Social Entrepreneur Corps, a social enterprise that effectively utilizes social entrepreneurship as an international development approach in Latin America. Students will work directly with Social Entrepreneur Corps field professionals and social entrepreneurs in Guatemala to help establish new, and grow existing, micro-consignment supported businesses.

The benefits include exposure to economic theories of social entrepreneurship and active engagement with case study analyses, Spanish language, and Guatemalan and Mayan culture. The students will experience living with the local families and working intensively with community service organizations, and local social entrepreneurs. Our students will make a tangible difference in people’s lives, while also acquiring the knowledge, skills, and habits necessary to become socially aware, active global citizens.

Dates: Online classes (UConn): Monday, June 1, 2015 – Saturday, June 27, 2015

Guatemala arrival: Sunday, June 28, 2015
Guatemala departure: Sunday, July 26, 2015

Locations: University of Connecticut, USA (online)/Guatemala

Cost: USD 3,400 per student, not including airfare, visa costs and health insurance.

FASStrack Asia: the Summer School

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at The National University of Singapore will be offering FASStrack Asia: the Summer School from 22 June to 25 July in 2015.

Applications are now open.  If your interest is in Asia and all things Asian, FASStrack Asia will be perfect for you.

As one of the most modern and dynamic countries in the world, Singapore with its multi-cultural society is ideally positioned as a transnational hub within Asia, the fastest-growing region in the world today. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, with its tradition of excellent teaching and strong research in Asian studies, is well poised to impart the critical skills necessary to understand this complex and vitally-important region. As Asia undergoes rapid developments, this summer school will offer a spotlight on the region for your better understanding of various related topics and issues.

Taught over a 5-week summer period you will attend classes, participate in active discussions and go on field trips with academic experts. We offer courses in different disciplines such as Sociology, Political Science, Food Science, Cultural studies as well as in Economics with special emphasis on various Asian regions. There are also Asian language classes on offer. Some of these courses feature an 8 to 10 days’ field trip to countries such as China, Japan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand, as well as local field trips in Singapore. In addition, you will be joined by international students from top universities all over the world for the summer school.

Highlights of the program include:

  • Study at NUS, a world-class university in Singapore – a cosmopolitan hub of Asia
  • Many courses with a 8-10 day field trip to a country in Asia

  • Experiential learning outside classroom

Fees

For students who are nominated by UNSW under an exchange arrangement with NUS, the tuition fee may be waived. Students receiving a credit transfer will instead be enrolled at UNSW and pay UNSW course fees. Costs for accommodation, field trips, flights etc. will be borne by the student.

Scholarships

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at UNSW has been able to secure funding for 10 scholarships of $3,000 each for Australian students through the Department of Education – Asia Bound Program.

Credit

All transfer of credit is at the Faculty’s discretion. Credit transfer may apply to some majors / minors in the BA program.

For students who are nominated by UNSW under an exchange arrangement with NUS, the NUS tuition fee may be waived and students may receive credit transfer back to their UNSW program.

Application and Deadlines

UNSW students who would like to apply must complete the UNSW GEP Application and the Intensive Transfer of Credit Form (in order to receive credit for the course) and return to advisor4globaled@unsw.edu.au. Applications close on Monday 9th March 2015.
